CHESTER PA – The gray Fear the dragon gelding Fearful Intent, an over 30% winner both this year and lifetime, got into the lead for a fairly easy half and then stormed home to win the $13,000 recommended handicap fast class pace in 1:51.2 at Harrah’s Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.
ANXIOUS INTENTION REPEAT
Tim Tetrick took off well from post two with Fearful Intent and soon had everyone looking for spots along the rail, then set up (for this one) somewhat pedestrian splits of :27.3 and :56.2. Lyons Steel, a noted Philly surface enthusiast who had to tuck third off an outside post on his return to the local oval, went up uncovered and battled hard with the leader past the 1:24 three-quarters and further down the stretch, but Fearful Intent still had a :27.2 kicker in him to keep that foe at bay.
Pollack Racing LLC owns the winner, 11-for-31 this season and 32-for-105 lifetime. Fearful Intent was piloted by track leader Tim Tetrick, one of three scores for Tetrick as he took the day’s grumpy honor. Trainer Jeff Cullipher was the only conditioner to record a double.
Co-featured was a $12,000 pace for developing males, won by three-year-old Captain Crunch colt Dreamlandcappucino in 1:54.4. Tyler Miller put the sophomore, trained and owned by Sergio Lozada, into the lead in a quarter of :28.2 and was then content to concede to favorite In The Moonlight, who was given a breather to a half of :58.2. The price of pace rose sharply, towards the middle of the back, as Miller left the pocket and charged into the lead in a 1:26.3 three-quarter, and from there Dreamlandcappucino held off Stay Focused, who had taken up the uncovered chase as the winner went past by three-quarters of a length, while In The Moonlight lasted the showdough.
The first Thursday card since the track’s renovation earlier this month will take place at 1 p.m. as Philly’s next live presentation, reuniting the “Trottin’ Thursday” group of fast diamond gaiters with a solid crew in the $13,000 handicap feature. There will also be a transfer to the Pick 5 betting pool of the fifth race. Free Philly program pages are or will be available at www.pha.org.
