Leeds held their fierce rivals to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Sunday, with Brenden Aaronson opening the scoring for the home side just after the hour mark. However, the lead only lasted three minutes when Matheus Cunha scored the equalizer for the visitors.
Leeds had chances to score more goals, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin hitting the post with a header and Gabriel Gundmundsson forcing a fine save from Senne Lammens.
However, a winner could not be found, although Leeds extended their unbeaten run to seven Premier League games. It is the club’s best performance in the Premier League in 25 years.
“When you play Man Utd as a newly promoted side it’s always a good point. A good point too. It wasn’t our best game today, football-wise. It was a bit shabby, you could see a few key players were out and we were a bit tired today,” Farke told TNT Sports.
“Still, we found a way. We forced an opener and took all three points, so I’m a little disappointed for that, but when I calm down I have to say it’s a fair point.
“It’s a good point, another point on our list and it widens the gap a bit. Resilience in a difficult game for us, but I’m still a bit disappointed it wasn’t three points.
“We had to play with fire in the heart and cool in the head. It’s difficult when you have a schedule like that. We kept a clean sheet against Liverpool, and two and a half days later everyone tells you this is the most important game of the last three years. Everyone is super excited.”
“It was important to play aggressively and with intensity and to find a good balance. The football was certainly not the best today, but again a good point.”
