Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals (Recorded in 44.3% of competitions on ESPN)

  • Competition size: 10
  • Timeframe: Weeks 16 and 17

Brissett has been the Cardinals’ starting quarterback since Week 6 and will assume those duties for the remainder of the season. From Weeks 6 through 13, he averaged 21.3 fantasy points per game, which ranked fifth among quarterbacks. Despite his success, he was dropped from several leagues due to back-to-back rough games against the Los Angeles Rams and the Houston Texans, and because five of the Cardinals’ top six wide receivers were out with injuries from the start of the season.

He was largely able to overcome the matchup in Week 14, completing 25 of 44 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns, leading to 20.0 points and another top-12 finish. He similarly completed 27 of 40 for 249 and three touchdowns in Week 15 despite losing yet another of his wide receivers.

Brissett faces the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals in the next two weeks. The matchup against Atlanta is above average and better than the other top quarterbacks available in at least 50% of ESPN leagues, such as Trevor Lawrence and Sam Darnold. The Bengals rank in the bottom three when it comes to preventing fantasy points for quarterbacks, so Brissett could be a top-five option in that matchup.

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (47.2%)

  • Competition size: 10
  • Timeframe: Weeks 16 and 17

Lawrence had the best statistical game of his NFL career in Week 15, completing 20 of 32 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns and running five times for 51 yards and a sixth score. He was the best quarterback available on the waiver wire last month despite a less-than-ideal schedule and persistent injuries at Wide Receiver. He now ranks seventh on the season in fantasy points per game among quarterbacks – and third since Week 5, behind only Josh Allen and Jaxson Dart. The only problem is that the Jaguars have the third-worst schedule for quarterbacks over the last two weeks, playing the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts. However, Lawrence has thrown for at least 220 yards and multiple touchdowns in each of his past four games. He’s playing so well that despite the matchups, he’ll be among the top quarterbacks each of the next two weeks, making him a borderline fantasy starter.
