Norwich City star Ajay Tavares appears to be on his way to Barcelona as the Spanish giants close a deal, according to the newspaper. Fabrizio Romano via.

Norwich City have shown signs of improvement on the pitch under Philippe Clement, but there is still work to be done to build consistency and momentum.

Ali Ahmed has already arrived during the January period, with further additions expected before the deadline. Harry Amass followed him and the Canary Islands can strengthen even further as the period comes to an end.

So far, the NCFC period has been dominated by Josh Sargent’s desire to leave, but it is another top signing who will be the first to leave. According to Fabrizio Romano on X2009-born prospect Ajay Tavares will leave the club.

Barcelona are close to an agreement for the striker, who is yet to make his NCFC debut. German clubs tried to enter the race but Barcelona are confident they will close in the coming days and Tavares wants the move.

Tavares turned 16 in December and can leave NCFC as he pleases. Despite being an England youth international, Tavares has a European passport and can move abroad if he wants.

Norwich City may regret not giving Tavares first-team minutes

Norwich City have long been known for their trust in young players, whether developed through their youth academy or recruited from abroad. That approach remains clearly visible this season, now that the Canary Islands can once again boast a youthful team.

The likes of Kellen Fisher and Jovon Makama have attracted attention, but despite continued problems in the side, Tavares has been given little chance to stake his claim.

With Barcelona reportedly one of the club’s biggest signings, Norwich may have missed the opportunity to integrate him into the senior setup.

A move to La Masia would understandably be difficult for Tavares to turn down. Given the level of interest, it is surprising that he has not even been included in a first-team matchday squad, a decision that could cost Norwich dearly in the long run.

What’s next for Norwich City?

Norwich City are flying under Phillipe Clement after a very poor start to the season. The Canaries have won three of their last four matches, including a 5-0 away win against West Brom.

Philippe Clement’s Norwich City record

With the transfer window continuing in the background, NCFC face Coventry City on Monday evening. With the Sky Blues still at the top of the table, it will be a very tough game for Norwich.

However, they will be more than confident going into the game. The conversation then returns to the transfer window, where many questions still need to be answered.
