Another week of the 2025 NFL season is in the books. These are the players to target in your fantasy football leagues, including options for smaller leagues and deeper leagues, and players to avoid.

QUARTER

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (Recorded in 26.8% of leagues on ESPN)

  • Competition size: 10
  • Time frame: Weeks 14, 15 and 17

Lawenrece completed 16 of 27 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns while running three times for 25 yards in a blowout win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 13. He was among the highest-scoring fantasy quarterbacks this week. While a few other quarterbacks available on the waiver wire had strong performances, Lawrence is the only one doing so with any consistency.

Lawrence has averaged 18.1 fantasy points per game over the past six weeks, which ranks 14th among quarterbacks. The next closest quarterback available on the waiver wire who is still a starter is Bryce Young, at 13.6. Young also had a good week, but he has a bye in Week 14.

The gap between Lawrence and the rest of the waiver wire quarterbacks is so wide that his schedule doesn’t matter much. The Jaguars face the Indianapolis Colts this week and in the fantasy championship round. Indianapolis likely won’t have cornerback Sauce Gardner injured before the first game, and the Colts have allowed at least 23 points in six of their past seven games. Lawrence will likely be ranked higher than any other quarterback this week — and possibly any other week during the fantasy playoffs.

JJ McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings (29.7%)

  • Competition size: 10, 12, 14
  • Timeframe: Weeks 14-17

McCarthy hasn’t had much fantasy success this season and he missed last week with a concussion. His 51.1% accuracy rate is the lowest among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts this season. Undrafted rookie Max Brosmer completed 19 of 30 passes for 126 yards and four interceptions in place of McCarthy in Week 13. While some thought Brosmer would remain the starter, that seems unlikely after his performance.

Despite his play, McCarthy is worth considering as he has the biggest upside among waived quarterbacks over the next four weeks. He will face the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Detroit Lions – the four teams that have allowed the most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season.

The toughest opponent from that group is Detroit, who McCarthy played in Week 6 and scored 19.9 fantasy points. It would be risky to put McCarthy in your fantasy starting lineup during the most critical part of the fantasy season, but quarterbacks facing the Commanders, Cowboys, Giants and Lions tend to be fantasy starters.
