1. Rico Dowdle starts for the Carolina Panthers

Chuba Hubbard led a two-man rotation the past two weeks.

Hubbard was the Panthers’ starter to start the season, while Dowdle played on third downs and served as the primary backup. Hubbard missed two games due to injury, during which Dowdle excelled with 53 carries for 389 rushing yards and a touchdown, in addition to seven receptions for 84 yards and a receiving touchdown. Despite Dowdle’s strong play, Hubbard led a rotation the past two weeks by riding over Dowdle. Dowdle finished with more than double the rushing yards per attempt of Hubbard in each game.

Earlier this week there were indications of a change said head coach Dave Canales”We cannot ignore the fact that Rico has been exceptional in a few games.” Dowdle was also announced as starter earlier in the day.

Dowdle ran 25 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns, while catching two passes for 11 yards. Hubbard was held for 17 yards on five carries. The drive-by-drive rotation was abandoned, and instead Hubbard entered the play when Dowdle needed a break. Dowdle was the lead in all situations, especially on short-yardage and goal-line plays.

Dowdle can safely be inserted into a fantasy starting lineup in the future, while Hubbard should remain on the bench. There’s a chance Hubbard plays better or Dowdle plays worse, in which case this could quickly revert to a two-man rotation. Until then, this is Dowdle’s backfield.

2. Devin Singletary leads the New York Giants backfield in carries
