Fantasy Football Trades Week 7 | PlayerProfiler

Fantasy football trading is an important way to improve your team. However, it is also the only controllable way to make other teams worse. In theory, great fantasy football trades optimize the rosters of both teams involved, leaving non-trade teams behind. This series will help provide some useful tips for players to “buy” and “sell” in trades. It also provides the right context for determining when trading or trading away a specific player makes sense for your team. For a player to be involved in a transaction, there must be a market for that player. Unlike your typical “trade for” and “trade away” articles aimed at taking advantage of less knowledgeable league peers, this series takes team context into account to determine whether you should buy or sell a hot player on the trade market.

Week 7 Fantasy Football Trading Advice

Nearby: RB Rico Dowdle, Carolina Panthers

Reason to buy: Weekly profit up

With Chuba Hubbard sidelined the past two weeks, Rico Dowdle has generally been the fantasy RB1. Dowdle has racked up 473 total yards over the past two weeks and is averaging more than 30 fantasy points per game. He’s racking up fantasy points thanks to his blazing efficiency, creating 4.49 yards per touch (No. 9 among qualified running backs) and insane volume, averaging 31 chances over the past two weeks. Even if Hubbard returns soon, Dowdle has done more than enough to carve out a role in this backfield. Acquiring someone who expects Dowdle to return to his pre-Week 5 role upon Hubbard’s return is a move that could pay off quite a bit.

Reason to sell: Selling high

Dowdle’s production is literally insane. He won’t average more than 30 fantasy points per game. While Hubbard’s return to the lineup is uncertain, Dowdle’s regression is inevitable. Essentially, if you can sell this production high, you should. This is the best two-game stretch Dowdle will have all season, regardless of when Hubbard returns. If you have a hole in your roster that needs filling, Dowdle can easily be used as a trade piece to fill it.

Nearby: RB Breece Hall, New York Jets

Reason to buy: Get ahead of the trade deadline

Breece Hall has been a source of trade rumors lately. Since the Jets are the NFL’s only remaining winless team, they may want to trade Hall, who is in the final year of his rookie deal. He currently sees the bulk of opportunities in the Jets’ backfield with 77.3 weighted opportunities (eighth among qualified running backs). However, because these touches come against an anemic Jets offense, it hasn’t translated into fantasy points: Hall is averaging just 11.8 points per game. A change of scenery could do wonders for Hall, who still has bell chops. It may be wise to acquire Breece Hall in hopes that Hall catches a plane out of New York to a contending team this trade deadline.

Reason for sale: cash out

Those who made an early pick on Breece Hall can’t speak too well of his fantasy production thus far. Currently the RB20 overall on the season, Hall has as many games with fewer than six fantasy points as he finishes in the top 12 of the RB. With the Jets offense near the bottom of the rankings, Hall will continue to produce some uneven performances that could cripple your fantasy team. Perhaps trading for a more consistent asset would make more sense, especially if the Jets don’t part ways with Hall at the trade deadline.

Nearby: RB Kenneth Walker, Seattle Seahawks

Reason to buy: Efficiency has to mean something

Kenneth Walker is one of the most efficient running backs in the NFL. He has a Juke Rate of 37.3% (third among qualified running backs) and ranks fourth among all running backs with an Explosive Rating of 120.3. He has created a total of 259 yards in six games. However, he is involved in a committee with teammate Zach Charbonnet. Charbonnet is on the other side of the efficiency pendulum, with just 123 yards created on the season and a turnover rate of 15.7%. It may only be a matter of time before the Seahawks give Walker some more opportunities as he plays like the better defender. Buy Walker low and hope this happens.

Reason for sale: stuck in commission

Kenneth Walker is on a full committee with teammate Zach Charbonnet. Now in his fourth season, the Seahawks know what they have with Walker and can continue to utilize this committee despite Charbonnet’s ineffectiveness. It’s hard to be a top 24 running back when you see the long odds of an RB3. Walker may not be able to maintain this efficiency, and if that diminishes, he’ll just be a flex play instead of an RB2. If you can sell Walker for a little more than an RB2 price, it could be a good deal if the Seahawks remain stuck in their ways.
