The Atlanta Falcons confirmed Sunday that they have interviewed former Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski as they continue their search for a new coach.

Stefanski, 43, has been named AP NFL Coach of the Year twice and was a popular candidate for teams looking for a new head coach after he was fired by Cleveland on Monday with a 46-58 record in six seasons. The Tennessee Titans interviewed Stefanski on Saturday after he was interviewed by the Baltimore Ravens on Friday.

The Falcons interviewed Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver on Saturday as they began their search to replace Raheem Morris. Atlanta also interviewed Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde on Saturday.

The interviews were conducted immediately after the team hired Matt Ryan as sports president. Ryan is leading the coaching and general manager searches, though he made his last appearance as an NFL analyst for CBS on Sunday’s pregame show before Buffalo’s wild-card game win in Jacksonville.

Ryan said during the broadcast that his goal is to help the Falcons make their first playoff appearance since 2017 next season.

“That’s the vision of where we want to be,” Ryan said. “You want to be in the mix, in the playoffs. It’s been too long and we’re going to work really hard and find the right people to get back in that position and be successful.”

Ryan was the Falcons’ starting quarterback from 2008 to 2021 and was the NFL MVP in 2016 after leading the team to the Super Bowl. He holds most of the team’s major passing records, including yards, touchdown passes and completions, and retired from the Indianapolis Colts after one season.

The Falcons fired Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot after an 8-9 season. It was the eighth straight season for the team with a losing record.
