Football Association, Chief Executive Mark Bullingham, says that conversations about a new contract for Sarina Wiegman are being held “at a suitable moment”, after the triumph of England 2025.
The Lionesses became the first Senior England team that won a major tournament on foreign soil on Sunday and defeated Spain on punishments to preserve their European championship crown.
England is the second nation that retains the ladies -title, after Germany, who won the tournament in 1989 and 1991, then triumphed six times in a row from 1995 to 2013.
In the meantime, Wiegman has won the last three editions of the tournament, after she led her native country to the title of 2017 before he supervised the first triumph of England in 2022.
She is the third manager who has won the trophy three times, after Gero Bisanz (1989, 1991, 1995) and Tina Theune (1997, 2001, 2005) both did this with Germany.
With Silvia Neid who supervises the victories of Germany in 2009 and 2013, the last eight editions of the Ladies -Euro have now been won by only three managers.
Wiegman is under contract until the end of the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, and although contract discussions are not imminent, the FA does not intend to lose her.
“It’s a bit early for that,” Bullingham told BBC Sport. “We are pleased that she is with us for the World Cup, and we will have that conversation at a suitable moment.
“She is an incredible manager and we are pleased to work with her, so that must be up to her. We will have those conversations when they are ready to go.”
England’s Euro 2025 Triumph came despite the fact that they only led four minutes and 52 seconds over their three knockout phase competitions (including stopping time).
That is the shortest amount of time that a title-winning side has spent in the lead in the knockout rounds of the ladies’ euros or Women World Cup.
Asked how England came out as a victor while attending a festive reception on 10 Downing Street on Monday, Wiegman told Sky News: “I don’t know! It feels very surrealistic.
“I just try to do my best every day, try to bring people together, and I have so much quality around me. It was having to sink. It was very special.
“I have to apologize for giving many heart attacks! We have made it and that’s why we are here now. The team is just incredible.”
