Since August it was expected that the Minnesota Timberwolves Bones would sign Hyland to complete their selection. This was first reported by Jon Krawczynski of athletics in August. Krawczynski said definitively that the Wolves will eventually sign Hyland, but noted that this could extend in September. Well, Krawczynski turned out to be right, because they did indeed sign hyland, but it did not happen until mid -September.

After Malcolm Brogdon signed with the New York Knicks, the signing of bones felt a certainty for the wolves. While some Wolves fans hoped for Brogdon or another signing of the Point Guard, Hyland is very logical.
Signing Bones Hyland is the perfect way for the Timberwolves to complete their schedule
Hyland protects what the last grid spot of the wolves could be. Johnny Juzang will also compete for one of these schedules in the training camp. However, it is possible that Hyland is their last schedule movement and they keep one place open for some financial flexibility. With a solidified rotation, the wolves are looking for some extra depth to complete their selection, making Hyland the perfect move.
Conversely, signing someone like Brogdon would have taken opportunities for second -year guard Rob Dillingham. Still, with Dillingham as an unproven second-year player, and an sooner 38-year-old Mike Conley as the only two point guards in the standard schedule of the wolves, this was always the most likely position that Minnesota would upgrade.
Although he is usually a depth piece, Hyland can play minutes if injuries arise. Hyland could become a consistent part of the rotation of the wolves if Conley will retire after this season. He has an average of 9.5 points and 17.1 minutes for his four -year career. The 6-foot-2 guard is certainly a gifted shot maker. Given the frame and playing style of Hyland, the similarities between him and Dillingham are clear.
Hyland spent the second half of last season with the wolves on a standard contract. He played in just four games and 17 total minutes with Minnesota. This may not seem promising. Nevertheless, Hyland was a consistent rotation player with the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers during his first two seasons in the competition. As a result, if the situation occurs, Hyland can yield fixed minutes.
For a Wolves team with a rotation that could go up to 10 players, signing someone who would take minutes from their young players would not be ideal. However, you would still love someone who is not a pure depth entry, and that is why it makes sense to bring Hyland back.
