The senators of Ottawa demolished their training camp with 17, so that the new total transferred to 31 players. Although there were no big surprises, there were some remarkable names that were waived or were again assigned.
The senators will play their third preseason game, so the timing of the cutbacks is logical, and with the openings on 25 September many expected some teams to start their cuts. Below I will give one thought to each of the players who were part of the first wave of cutbacks.
Matthew Andonovski, LD – assigned to Belleville
Sent to the American Hockey League (AHL) was always the plan with Matthew Andonovski. There is a lot defensesBut he needs time to adapt to the pro level. With defensive defenders, time in the AHL is almost always favorable for the player. As AHL -smokie, Andonovski could have a really strong Rookie campaign and show that he can fight for a place next season. For now, the long -term front views for Andonovski is that he could compete for a place in another two to three seasons.
Wyatt Bongoivanni, RW – Placed remotely
Wyatt Bongiovanni is a quality piece to have in Belleville. Although he will probably not end up on the call-uplist with significant injuries, he can be part of finding success in the AHL with Belleville. While they are placed remotely, Bongiovanni will probably make clear and the senators will gladly keep him in the organization.
Tyler Boucher, RW – assigned to Belleville
The senators are in a difficult place with Tyler Boucher. Of course the clear expectation for him is to play in the AHL this season, because he is a former 10th general draft choice. The current front office has no ties with that concept choice, which can be favorable because the organization may not have too much pressure.
Boucher is going to play In the AHLAnd the goal for him this season should be to show that he can produce. Although he has missed some time, the 47 matches of Boucher in the AHL are the most consistent who has set the winger since then, and even before. Now that he is back in the Groove, he can concentrate more on increasing his production.
Xavier Bourgault, RW – posted on exemptions
After he had been taken over in a deal with the Edmonton Oilers for Roby Jarvence, the senators hoped that a new start would help the former 22nd overal to find his attack. Although he has improved the season earlier, there is still some work to do if he wants to reach the NHL level. The senators are likely to hope that Bourgault will sneak through exemptions, because he is only 22 years old and could still take that next step.
Jake Chiasson, RW – assigned to Belleville
There was not much of an expectation for Jake Chiasson to make the NHL club, and he will probably bounce between the AHL and Echl again this season. Although he can play at AHL level, he must show that he can produce. He went scoreless in his 19 games with Belleville last season. He gets the chance to earn a place with the Minor League club.

Cameron Crotty, RD – Placed remotely
The senators signed Cameron Crotty in the low season as an option for the depth of the organization. Crotty settles as a good AHL veteran defender, and the senators want to build Belleville as a strong team. Crotty played a match in the NHL last season with the Minnesota Wild, but will probably not get that chance this season with the senators.
Philippe Daoust, C/LW – assigned to Belleville
The senators have signed Philippe Daoust with an AHL contract, so it was always expected that Daoust would be again granted. He put together his first full pro season and scored 22 points with Belleville. Daoust is going to look to take another step offensive and to take a greater role with Belleville.
Jorian Donovan, LD – assigned to Belleville
Jorian Donovan had a shaky start of his professional hockey career, who had to play a role at Belleville last season and was unable to produce as well as in Junior hockey. The end of the season was much better for him.

This season Donovan will play a greater role, and although it can take time before players can adapt, if he can continue to build half of the season, he can perhaps take a step in his development.
Tomas Hamara, LD – assigned to Belleville
Tomas Hamara had a Breakout season with the Brantford Bulldogs in the Ontario Hockey League, and although that production level will not be expected to the AHL, there could be a very interesting development path To look. Hamara could end in a position as Donovan did last season, or he could settle quickly and set up 25-30 points.
Landon Hookey, RW – assigned to Belleville
The senators signed Landon Hookey for an AHL deal this season outside the season, and after an impressive OHL season with 70 points, he gets the chance to get into the Belleville line -up and continue his development.
Jackson Parsons, G – assigned to Belleville
The senators signed Jackson Parsons as a free agent after a very impressive season 2024-25. He added a lot of hardware to his collection, including the OHL and Canadian Hockey League (CHL) goalkeeper of the year Awards. Although there could be some heavy competition in the fold for the AHL, Parsons could easily agree as a starter, whether he is ready or not. His likely role is Belleville’s backup, but with the injury history of Mads Sogaard he could be in a major role.
Oskar Pettersson has an AHL experience one and a half season, and this season he will look for a greater role with Belleville. He has some good attacking skills, but he was unable to produce at a pro level, both in Sweden and Belleville. Pettersson has a great shot, and if he is able to get and use in score positions, a 20 goal season is not a crazy thought.
Garrett Pilon, C – Placed remotely
Garrett Pilon has had two strong seasons with Belleville, and although they are placed remotely, will probably continue and continue as a strong veteran for the AHL club. Although there will be a competition at the top of the forward line-up for Belleville, Pilon would probably get one of the top-six jobs based on his experience and rather play with the team.
Jamieson Rees, C – assigned to Belleville
Jamieson Rees had a large outbreak year in 2022-23 with 42 points, but was unable to return to that production level. Now signed with an AHL deal, Rees is going to look to return to his scoring roads and climb the depth cards again.
Hunter Shepard, G – Placed remotely
The senators signed Hunter Shepard as a depth target for Belleville, and he needed exemptions to get to the AHL. Shepard spent time with the Hershey bears and had some impressive seasons, but he will probably be in a tandem with Sogaard or in a rotation with parsons.
Djibril Toure, RD – assigned to Belleville
After he was signed at an entry -level contract in 2023, Toure starts his second professional season. He spent time between the Ahl and Echl last season, but will probably be inside A greater role With Belleville this season. It is obvious to pay attention to how Toure uses his size. Although he does not throw a massive hits every team or something, he is a physical player, he is defensively healthy and has a good skating. He is only 22 and could make his way in a major role at Belleville.
Keeean Washkurak, C – assigned to Belleville
Another AHL deal, as expected, was also assigned to Belleville. Washkurak was a good depth center for Belleville last season and scored 19 points. He has four AHL seasons under his belt and can ensure strong internal competition for the club.
With all 17 of those players, the senators are left with 31 players on the Roster, and with another wave or two cuts, players will look to impress the staff and earn a place on the Roster. Although there are minimal places for the taking, there will be a lot of competition for those places.
