Wasi Adeshina will enter the cage PFL Africa 2 in Johannesburg on August 9, 2025 as a featherweight hunter for Nigeria, residential and training in Sweden. The story of his career starts with adversity instead of ambition.

Adeshina’s letter

Adeshina started to practice mixed martial arts for self -protection after being bullied. “It was more like a self -protection. Everyone was bullied once in their lives, and one day you wake up and say you, not bullied anymore,” he said, in an interview with Lowkick MMA.

Adeshina explains that he did not want to become a professional athlete. “The dream was never to become a professional MMA hunter. I had a few fights and then I got it that far. Once you’ve got it that far, you get curious about how far you can go, where your skills and your self-confidence can bring you.” He says that bullies are sent to martial arts and eventually formed his path. “Those people did me a favor. They brought me where I had to be.”

He encourages young people who are confronted with initiative for similar challenges. “One day you stand up for yourself. Take matters into your own hands because mum and dad will not be there all the time. Big brothers and big sisters won’t always be there. Only you.”

“Everyone can take what you have today and they will not look back and not give it. Winning that fight showed me my potential and that this was meant. If you unlock that character, nobody can stop you.”

Adeshina will be confronted with Jean-Jacques Lubaya of the Democratic Republic of Congo in his next game. He emphasizes the importance of the chance. “I am very grateful to PFL for giving the chance. A man like me, most people would never believe that I would get that far. But we are now in the big competitions and it’s time for the Champions League to start.”

When asked about the strategy, Adeshina does not focus on extensive planning. “Everyone has a game plan until they are hit in the face. I look forward to being beaten in the face and then we will see the game plan there,” he said.

Looking ahead, Adeshina wants to earn the PFL Africa Belt and then compete internationally. “I take the PFL Africa -Riem and then look for my capacities on the world stage to also take that belt. I’m going to start with Africa and then take the nations.” He credit his team at the Sweden Top Team for their continuous support and would like to represent their work in Johannesburg. “I can’t wait to go to Johannesburg and show what we have worked on.”
