Ajaz Patel did not play too often for New -Zealand, because the kiwis usually used it in test matches in the subcontinent. However, he has produced some memorable versions against some of the best batters in World Cricket.
During an exclusive interview with Crictracker, Ajaz mentioned Joe Root As the most difficult batter he bowed to in test cricket. He also chose Auckland’s Aditya Ashok as a young spinner he is enthusiastic about. Moreover, Ajaz explained how challenging it is to bowl to Indian batters such as Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and others.
Ajaz, who picked up 11 Wickets from Seven T20is on average 10.73, also said that he would like to play for Mumbai Indians (MI) if he gets a chance in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
To whom is the most difficult batter you have bent in tests for?
Yes, I think in Test Cricket I was lucky to play against a few teams so far. A man who really sticks out is Joe Root. As a spinner, only the way he records runs and builds his innings. He is a difficult person to secure. He is a difficult person to build dots. And that is what makes him so dangerous, because you go good balls for one and your bad balls go for four. So it’s a bit like, where does the pressure get off? But even in the last kind of 12 months to 24 months, it is getting better and better. So yes, it’s great to look at, and he is certainly very talented.
Which young spinner in New -Zeelandse Cricket do you fascinate the most?
Yes, I think and come, I think, Aditya Ashok from Auckland. He is a young leg spinner. He is very, very talented, and I think we will see much more from him in the future, and he will certainly have a lot of good things about him, and he will continue to develop and grow, and I think he will be a very big asset for new Zeeland cricket in the future.
Who is the most difficult seizure in the Indian team to add?
That is a difficult one because, you know, in all honesty, I think all Indian batters are quite difficult to bowl. They are all phenomenal players, and I think they all offer different challenges. I mean, we talked about someone like Rishabh, who is quite unorthodox but very aggressive and then I think you have boys like Jaiswal at the top of the order, who is also very aggressive, but then you have the elegance and class of Shubman Gill and then, you have clearly, you have virat and players. So I think every batter offers a different challenge, and so they all have been a challenge at different times.
If you get a chance, which IPL team would you like to represent now?
Oh, that’s an easy one. I am a Mumbai boy in heart and soul, so I think if I had the chance, I would like to be part of Mumbai and, you know, it is a place that is dear to my heart and, of course, Wankhede has been very good for me, so yes, that would be an easy one.
Fast fire:
Shane Warne or Anil Kumble?
Walking pitch or seam -pitch?
10-Wicket Trek or a test match victory?
Wankhede or Eden Park?
Left arm spinner you admire the most, Daniel Vettori or Ravindra Jadeja?
More difficult to bowle, virat Kohli or Kane Williamson (in Nets)?
Longer spell of bowling or fast fiery burst?
Playing in India or playing in England?
