Janet Garcia wants an atomweight class in UFC
When asked about the recent push from the UFC to Mexico and the opening of UFC BJJ, the American Kickboxing Academy product stated that if there was ever an opportunity for her to fight under the banner, it should be (probably) in its original weight class.
“Most of which I walk around is like perhaps 120, 121 you know?” Said Janet Garcia. “So it’s not like I’m going to win all these muscles … I’m never going to say, right? Maybe for the right opponent, I would do that.”
Janet Garcia hopeful that UFC is expanding to Atomweight
With the last weight class of the flight weight of women that will be added in 2017, the UFC is now approaching ten years ago that a weight class has been added to the growing schedule of the company of competitors. According to Janet Garcia, she believes that the division has more than the opportunity to make a splash.
“I wish they could do it. I mean the talents there immediately? As you can see, my fight, just like the other hunters at 105, is one where we give it all. So if that happened, I would of course like to do that.”
With stars such as Seika Izawa in Rizin and Elisandra Ferreira for Invicta, Garcia’s point of the talent pool is sufficient at 105 stands with ever -growing merit day by day. It now seems that the only question that remains is when the most important organizations in MMA, such as the UFC & PFL, start to take these weight classes.
