On Saturday, King’s Plate Day is in Woodbine, but Canada’s version of the Kentucky Derby is not the only big race of tap. The Undercard is based on the grade 1 EP Taylor Stakes, a “win and you’re in” event for the Mark Mark Fokers Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
This year’s EP Taylor drew a seven field, but the morning line says it can be a race with one horses. We dive in and offer insight below!
She feels pretty formidable favorite

Cherie Devaux has already trained this 4-year-old in a quartet of Grade 1 victories, and she missed a fifth when she was beaten last month by a head in the Dunkin ‘Diana Stakes in Saratoga.
This will not be her first trip to the Great White North. She feels pretty to Woodbine in 2023 and won the class 1 Johnnie Walker Natalma Stakes as a 2-year-old. Since then she has emerged as one of the best peat tifts in North America, with victories from a mile to Saturday distance from 1 1/4 miles. As much as I want to give an advanced opinion in this room, I just can’t go against her.
How to use the EP Taylor
I think the best way to play the EP Taylor is by playing a straight exactly and getting second place correctly. The one I have established in second place is #3 Diamond Rain (6-1)who is registered from Europe for Godolphin and Charles Appleby. I prefer that they are colleague spoiler candidates #5 Caitlinhergrtness (8-1)that seems to be preferable #7 ready for shirl (7-2)That I think it has just beaten a weaker competition.
Diamond Rain was last given the winning of a group 3 race in Newmarket, and on paper this is a leap in the classroom for her. However, there are many positives here. Regular driver William Buick takes the long flight to Ontario to ride her, which is always remarkable, and she is relatively inexperienced (the EP Taylor will only be her seventh career party). Finally, she has proven at this distance, with three victories with 10 furlongs or similar abroad.
There is no value in betting that she feels beautiful at her expected price. She should be a opportunity. However, playing a straight 4-3 Exacta can offer something for your money, because I don’t think diamond rain will be the second choice in that swimming pool.
