Ex-NFL star Tyrann Mathieu drank bleach in an attempt to beat his college drug test

In a recent episode of his In the Bayou podcast, former NFL safety tyrann Mathieu admitted that he used several methods to pass his drug tests while playing at Louisiana State University, including, yes, drinking bleach.

‘I’ve tried everything in the books’ Mathieu said. He admitted to even using other people’s urine and a fake penis.

However, none seemed to have the effects of drinking something found in washrooms and under sinks from coast to coast.

“I remember one time, to tell you a funny story, not funny, I could have died, but a few tests before I realized they were going to kick me out of school, I sat in a circle and tried to figure out on Google, ‘Man, how the hell do I pass this test?’ These people keep threatening me, right?

“I’m scrolling and I come across a few things that say just put some bleach in the top,” Mathieu continued. “Put a little bleach in the top and put it in your Coca-Cola. And so I did that, and I was like, ‘Yo, what the heck.’ It felt like my whole insides just exploded. Finally I throw that s**t up, and at that point I’m like, ‘F**k it, I’m out of tricks.’

There was a reason why Mathieu tried to beat the drug test.

At LSU in 2011, he was suspended for one game, according to Apple News. A year later, he was fired after failing multiple tests and entered a drug rehabilitation program in Houston. He overcame his drug problems despite an arrest for marijuana possession after his discharge.

Things turned out fine for Mathieu. The “Honey Badger,” a third-round draft pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, retired in 2024 as a three-time All-Pro selection and three-time Pro Bowler. He played against the Arizona Cardinals, the Houston Texans, the Kansas City Chiefs (where he won a Super Bowl in 2020) and the New Orleans Saints.
