Newcastle United fans heading to Sunday’s match may well see one of our former strikers manning a stall handing out new West Ham shirts in exchange for old ones.
A good test of your knowledge (if you were there when the last NUFC promotion took place) of Newcastle United.
This striker was signed by Aston Villa from West Ham for £4 million in 2007, before signing for Chris Hughton on loan on 24 September 2009.
In 15 appearances, this forward scored five goals, helping Newcastle United finish as winners of the 2009/10 championship.
Yes, Sunday’s stall outside the London Stadium offering new West Ham shirts for old ones is Marlon Harewood.
With the mood among West Ham fans as they are at the moment and the sheer hatred they have towards Karren Brady and David Sullivan for their leadership of the club, Hammers fans may well throw away this season’s West Ham shirt rather than get excited about getting their hands on one for free/exchanging for an old one.
West Ham fans have planned a series of protests against the club’s hierarchy and after asking their supporters to boycott the final home game against Brentford, they are asking Hammers fans to hold a demonstration on Sunday after the final whistle blows against Newcastle.
Official announcement from West Ham – October 29, 2025:
West Ham United fans have a unique opportunity this weekend to get their hands on a home shirt from this season by trading in an old shirt at a shirt swap market stall run by BOYLE Sports, the club’s main partner.
Hammers supporters aged 18 and over attending Sunday’s home game against Newcastle United at the London Stadium can visit the stall before the match, with a limited number of this season’s home shirts up for grabs if you exchange them for one of your old shirts!
To mark the occasion, the BOYLE Sports shirt swap market stall will be manned by former West Ham United striker Marlon Harewood, who will be on hand to meet fans and hand out the new shirts.
The stall is open from 11am and is located next to the iconic Olympic bell. Fans missing one of the new shirts can still trade in their old kits for a discount of up to £30 on a new 2025/26 replica shirt at the West Ham United Stadium Store. Supporters can complete their trade-in at the stall via Birl’s online portal and then redeem their credit in store.
Each shirt returned on the day will be recycled and reused by sustainability supplier Birl, ensuring the initiative leaves a lasting impact beyond the match. The old shirts are transformed into new, West Ham-inspired clothing and accessories, giving cherished colors a second life and keeping the fabric in circulation.
West Ham United became the first Premier League team to partner with Birl, launching ahead of the 2025/26 season, allowing fans to trade in old shirts for a discount on the new ones.
Ahead of the activation, Liam McKee, Head of Sponsorship at BOYLE Sports, said: “Our relationship with West Ham is built on passion, pride and community – and that’s what the Shirt Swap stall is all about. We want to give fans the chance to get their hands on the new shirt, show off their passion and do something positive for the planet.
“From giving away scarves at the first home game of the season to taking over Stratford Station and our branded taxis providing fan transport, we loved being part of the matchday experience and the Shirt Swap takes that to another level.”
Former West Ham United striker and Club Ambassador Marlon Harewood added: “I’ve played in so many iconic shirts during my time at West Ham and this year’s home shirt is another great design, so I’m looking forward to delivering lots of new shirts to Hammers fans this weekend. I think the shirt change initiative being spearheaded by the Club and BOYLE Sports is a fantastic way to promote sustainability and engage with supporters, I’m excited to be part of that!”
This latest initiative continues BOYLE Sports’ commitment to partnering with West Ham United on matchdays, with further activations and giveaways planned for the remainder of the season.”
