Bristol City reaches agreement for ex-Liverpool winger Ranel Young
Pete O’Rourke signed up on Wednesday afternoon Football insider that the ex-Liverpool striker has agreed a deal to join Bristol City, having already taken part in training sessions with the Championship side.
The transfer will be confirmed before the January transfer window and the teenager will be added to Gerhard Struber’s squad for the second half of the season, with the Robins currently 11th in the table but just four points outside the play-off positions.
A breakthrough into the first team eluded Young at Liverpool
Young never made a competitive first-team appearance for Liverpool but was named on the bench for two domestic matches last season – the Carabao Cup win against Brighton in October 2024 and the shock FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle the following February.Transfer market).
During his time at the Reds academy, the 19-year-old stood out for his speed, dribbling ability and direct attacking style, along with his ability to cut inside on his left foot and deliver dangerous deliveries into the opponent’s penalty area.
While Struber has an abundance of attackers in his squad at Ashton Gate, it is not overflowing with natural wingerswhich could give the teenager a plausible shot at making a few championship appearances in the new year and beyond.
Bristol City were beaten in the play-off semi-finals last season and are well in the mix to have another shot at that potential path to the Premier League in 2026, so it’s an exciting time for Young to join the Robins.
