Los Angeles Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto was brilliant again, pitching a complete game in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, giving LA a 2-0 lead in the series.

However, the right-hander didn’t start dominantly, allowing outfielder Jackson Chourio to hit a 300-foot home run on the very first pitch of the game. From his second pitch he was remarkable.

Yamamoto eliminated the last 14 Brewers to en route to his historic performance. He relied mostly on his splitter during Game 2, throwing it 34 times, while his fastball and curveball were thrown 27 times apiece.

His fastball averaged 96.3 mph, which is higher than his 95.8 mph heater in his last outing against the Philadelphia Phillies, where he played just four-plus innings.

When was the last time a Dodgers pitcher had a complete game in the postseason?

Yamamoto’s nine innings of work marked the 23rd postseason complete game by a Dodgers pitcher in franchise history. He became only the second Dodger to throw a complete postseason game since Orel Hershiser threw three in 1988.

The last time a Dodgers pitcher had a complete game in the postseason was Jose Lima in Game 3 of the NLDS in 2004. He struck out four and allowed five hits and one walk, going the full nine innings.

According to Japanese media, Yamamoto’s complete game was the first by a Japanese pitcher in MLB history.
