Everton defeated Mansfield Town 2-0 in their very first cup match in the Hill Dickins Stadium to continue to the third round of the Carabao Cup.
It was a comfortable evening for David Moyes and his players who were hardly threatened by their competition two opponents. The blues dominated it and created every opportunity and scored twice through Charly Alcaraz and Beto in the opening and final minutes of the first half.
Mansfield Town ended the game without shots on goal such as the blues -led line, led by James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Captain Seamus Coleman and the recurring Vitalii Mykolenko kept their own.
Tyler Dibbling Made his first performance for the blues, who came off the bank after an hour, while Mark Travers, who made his Everton debut between the sticks, had little to do. The 18-year-old Harrison Armstrong looked impressive after playing the entire 90 minutes and helping both Everton goals in the night.
Reviews for Everton -Players against Mansfield Town:
Mark Travers – 6
The Everton debutant had very little to do during the competition, to be honest. Looked comfortable while they gathered crosses and knew danger.
Seamus Coleman – 7
Everton’s captain made his first start for the club in their new stadium after he had led the boys in May a last time in Goodison Park. He is perhaps physically beyond his prime, but Coleman’s wisdom, experience and grit could be seen most of the game. He sniffed danger and claimed dominance on the right flank.
Michael Keane – 6
It was a comfortable game for Keane, whose presses led to a chance of beto that he should have converted. Keane also ventured forward and took spaces in the last third part in the first half when the blues struggled to break the defense of Mansfield.
James Tarkowski – 6
Had an impressive game in the middle of the backline. Blocked an attempt by Regan Hendry in the second half with his head that Mansfield’s first shot could have been on goal.
Vitalii Mykolenko – 7 (immersed for Jake O’Brien on 87 ‘)
Promising mykolenko match on his return of an injury. He ventured up and down on the left flank and provided a cross in the second half that could have been scored by Thierno Barry.
James Garner – 7
Garner was back to his usual role in midfield, and together with the young Harrison Armstrong, the duo did reasonably well. Garner took care of the wonderful ball that broke through the Mansfield defense before Armstrong was in the context to beto for a tap-in to secure the Everton insurance goal in the second half.
Harrison Armstrong – 8
Armstrong made the best out of his chance and left a strong impression tonight with his performance. He always showed the ball and was in the middle of things. The 18-year-old had saved his shot by the opposition keeper from an acute angle in the first half.
Armstrong showed calm tonight for his assists at Alcaraz and Beto. He also sent a nice ball to Iliman Ndiaye who could only find the side with his toe Poke attempt.
Jack Grealisk – 7 (immersed for Tyler Dibbling at 60 ‘)
Another strong performance by Everton’s Statement Summer Signing, which showed a lot of intention. Grealisk created great opportunities for Dwight McNeil and Armstrong, which they could not convert in the first half. The 29-year-old could have scored his first goal for the club, but wrapped his foot under the ball up close.
Charly Alcaraz – 8 (immersed for Iliman Ndiaye on 78 ‘)
Charly Alcaraz had a wonderful game after he shortened his natural number 10 roll. He had Everton’s first shot on goal with a nice run and was lively while combining teammates in the last third part. Alcaraz also produced a great finish from the edge of the box to break the impasse early in the second half.
Dwight McNeil – 6 (immersed for Tim Ioonbunam on 78 ‘)
While the early crosses of McNeil looked deadly from the right, they became predictable and easy to read after a while. He made a wonderful Mazy Run in the second half and should have done better with the golden chance that he grew.
Faded from the game after half an hour and went to his favorite position on the left for a few minutes after Grealisk was removed before he came out.
Thierno Barry – 6 (immersed for Beto at 60 ‘)
It was a mixed bag with a game for Barry, making it difficult to assess him objectively. His overhold play was good and some of his touches and passes were carried out smartly, but the 6’4 ”Frenchman missed deadly bravery in the box. He was involved in building the opening goal of Everton.
Replacement
TYLER DIBLING – 6
Dibling was greeted by a huge roar of the crowd after his first performance in blue at the hour of the hour. Hold things and some of his touches and parties showed the class that the 19-year-old possesses.
Beto – 6
It was a strange game for the Everton number 9. Although he had the most important second goal to illuminate the supporters, he also caused a lot of frustration on other occasions. Beto was played on goal after Keane won the ball high on the field, but his shot lacked power and conviction.
The Guinea-Bissau international also went wide from a testing Mykolenko Cross before he could not take advantage of a pass from IroEbunam to the final phase.
Iroembunam – Team – 6
Ioembunam provided firmness in the middle of the park and helped his match to see the game. He could have achieved an assist if Beto had been more clinical.
Idaimation Ndaye – 6
The Everton Number 10 had a clear moment when he entered the box after he was played by Armstrong, just to find the side with a brutal attempt at toe poke.
Jake O’Brien – NVT
Came in the dying minutes and threw in the left, a new role for him.

I have no problem with those reviews. Nobody abandoned us.
This team still has to get to know each other, so that things have to get considerably better.

Give the new boys the time to bed and gel, we have a decent team that should at least be there in the mix of the top 10. Nice victory in this competition and we have a chance for a decent run and perhaps this elusive cup can be ours 🤷🥳💙

Moyes now has a number of interesting decisions for Saturday. I am sure that Garner and Gueye will start together, but every combination of Grealish, Ndiaye, Alcaraz, Dewsbury-Hall, Dibling and Armstrong offers real hope for the future. I just need someone to put the ball in the net.

I would like to see that Ndiaye plays TOP with Grealish Charly and Dibbling behind, for 15 minutes to see how it works.

Seamus has to wrap in cotton wool.

I have just returned from the competition, sustainable traffic congestion, a little disappointed in many matte contributions from some of our so -called stars. Barry could have been Beto tonight to control a few easy balls and to reject a few chances.
Yet in the next round, what a bonus is, without too much egg on our faces, in contrast to a team in the M62. I can’t see Amorim that the season takes!

Colin, hopefully we can achieve that by bringing in a first class RB and having Seamus fill in occasionally.
Derek, I don’t think we have an egg on our face of that version. Commentators also did not sound as they thought.

It was okay, not better, not worse. As Clough said before the game, the Golf is great, our second team would beat their first team 9 times out of 10.
Mind you, at Grimsby, it was the 1 in 10 that occurred

For the first time since 1985 I am really enthusiastic about Everton as a team.
Everyone wanted to show tonight, yes, it was Mansfield, but with respect they played well and were set up accordingly.
We are a great team in the making and will we challenge the top with a few additions? Six, I don’t doubt it.

Awesome Stadium, promising looking team, long -term optimism for the future.
Charly was a moth for me today, he was all over the entire field and fought for every ball.

It couldn’t agree with you anymore, #5 Lewis than to try to play a false nine with Ilyman. Can really upset some CBs such as the RS pair. We must get a real threat.

In previous years I could see that I was 0-0 or 0-1, but I thought we dominated most of the game and with more application and better ball control in the front we would have packed the game by HT.
That said I thought the rest of our game was pretty good.
Oh to have Richy back as our number 9.

Armstrong looks really good for an 18 -year -old. Borrow him so that he can play more games. Absolutely one to keep.
Iroembunam also looks good. Keep it rotation. I think CM looks good now.

Armstrong had a very good game, in a comfortable victory. Allocation of tickets for this game was a joke to say the least. E -mails sent to fans to download tickets at 18.13 on Night or Match is just not good enough.
