Looking at Serbia 0 England 5 last night …
I approached it the same as any other qualifying match with one group or friendly.
Zero expectation of being entertained, knowing that I would like to kick the TV because of listening to Lee Dixon and Sam Matterface, while England has difficulty with a non -convincing one or two target gain.
Yet only one of those three things was the reality last night.
I was very entertained and the 5-0 win was anything but a struggle for England.
Even Lee Dixon and Sam Matterface could not ruin these, no matter how hard they tried.
Could this be the start of something completely different when looking at the national side, is Serbia 0 England 5 a sign of a more positive future?
Perhaps it will only turn out to be a false dawn, a one -off last night.
Maybe, although Sam Matterface accidentally pointed out how this might be a sign of better things that come with England.
While she was driving for success, Matterface began to list from all the players who would usually be in the team, but they missed, mainly due to injury. The obvious implication was that this Serbia 0 England 5 match was great … but if you imagine how much even better it will be when these usual suspects are available.
Hmmm. Perhaps, England played so well last night because those players didn’t play!
Matterface has actually mentioned Phil Foden. I can’t remember that he once played well for England. Constant lateral transient and backwards, not a great pace, no big urgent of the opposition, no creativity or dynamics.
He also mentioned Cole Palmer, who again, I don’t think it does for England. Even Bellingham, a great player for Real Madrid but apart from the strange moment of quality with England …
Bukayo Saka maybe the exception in this quartet, but maybe Thomas Tuchel might have beaten the right formula, even if it is accidental! If you’re hard …
Serbia is not great, but they are not mugs and under Southgate they were better in last year’s euros than England who flown a result. Serbia also had a pretty recent record. It is clear that people like Spain are the real class and still far ahead of England I think, then France, when they can bother themselves, Portugal is good, probably Argentina, but perhaps England can close the gap when they play entrepreneurial football with the right staff.
Lifelong Newcastle United Fan and unfortunately now a former NUFC player, Elliot Anderson, made it two men from the Match Awards in his first two caps. Yet Matterface and Dixon would probably not even blink if he was replaced by one of the usual suspects as soon as they are completely fit.
Anderson and Rogers were excellent in midfield, dynamic and positive. No surprise perhaps that we had the rare sight of rice with a top class game for England.
On the wings, Gordon and Madueke were the lead, pressing high on pace and ran again and again on their opponent, Serbia could not handle them.
Harry Kane actually had a rare better match and moved a bit, the positivity and movement of the others who might rub him. England is perhaps only a younger and more mobile center output away from an exciting front six in midfield and attacks.
England does not focus on the back and of course I want to be positive about him, but how good was Tino Livramento ??? Whether he plays on the left or right, for Newcastle United and England, he is so good. Only one of the many excellent signs of Eddie Howe.
It is funny how quickly we got used to Newcastle fans to show countless players again for England. The Eddie Howe Magic at work again, then Burn was out but played in the victory over Andorra. While Lewis Hall, Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope have recently been involved with England under Howe.
It is clear that Newcastle United is the (alone!) Priority, but a nice bonus when we see Newcastle United players perform during the 2026 World Cup final in the summer of 2026, perhaps next to the Newcastle United fan that was forced to sell NUFC because of PSR …

This is the international schedule of September 2025 for players of Newcastle United:
Thursday 4 September
Slovakia 2 Germany 0
Nick Woltemade made his third performance for Germany shunned. Germany lacks many of their best players, especially creative. Germany rightly earned in their opening -world cup group qualification. Rudiger and Tah especially badly in defense.
Friday 5 September
Brazil 3 Chile 0
Bruno Guimaraes who performs a top class in this dominant world cup group qualifying extraction. Buno assessed it by scoring the third and final goal and assessed the man of the game. Joelinton not mentioned in the MatchDay team and it seems that he stayed in Newcastle to ensure that he returns within eight days of injuries against Wolves.

Slovenia 2 Sweden 2
Emil Krafth stayed on the couch when Sweden attracted their first of six qualifying roads from the World Cup group. Anthony Elanga with a very good performance and scored a top quality goal in running the line halfway through the line, playing a two-two and applying a class finish, to lead Sweden at 18 minutes. After he left 64 minutes at 1-1 as part of a double replacement at 1-1, Anthony Elanga watched from the couch while Sweden took the lead again, only for the heartache as a last sigh of poor defensive Slovenia equalizer a 90th minute.

South -Sudan 1 Dr. Congo 4
Great news for Newcastle United and Dr. Congo, while Yoane Wissa looks good and in shape. An assist and a goal, then immersed when 4-0 to save him for Tuesday’s massive match against Senegal, who could well decide which of the two are eligible for the World Cup Final 2026.
Italy 5 Estonia 0
A typical quality of all Sandro Tonali actions. A competition that Italy had to win and that they did very convincingly. The United midfielder one of a number of players rested as soon as the game was won, Tonali immersed at 3-0 in 76 minutes.
Denmark 0 Scotland 0
A first senior call -up for Will Osula, but the Newcastle United Forward looked out of the bank, while Denmark did not score and disappointed not to win an opening match they had and should have won.
Saturday 6 September
England 2 Andorra 0
The Newcastle United Trio did not hurt itself in this annoying victory. Dan Burn probably had more details than any other player when Andorra was camping in their own half, the defender of Newcastle never had a defense in defense when he played the full game and was a threat in corners a few times, although most crosses were miserable. A first half of their own goal and a good second half rice head of a James Cross were the goals that deserved the victory. Gordon and Livramento were given the last 20 minutes and helped to inject a little more spark and intensity, together with fellow subs Rogers and Gibbs-White.
Sunday September 7
Germany 3 Noord -Iarland 1
An essential victory for Germany in this qualifying match of the World Cup group and it took Nick Woltemade only seven minutes to leave his mark. The Newcastle United Spits who plays in Serge Gnabry to lead the home team. Only for the Isaac price from West Brom to draw a 34th minute equalizer for Noord -Irland. The goal scorer of Germany Gnabry and Wolade who offered the assist was both strayed after an hour. In the end, Amiri and Wirtz achieved the goals that took the victory.
Monday 8 September
Israel 4 Italy 5
What a night for Sandro Tonali and Italy.
A qualifying match from the World Cup group Win and they finally did it! Italy behind 1-0 and 2-1, then led 4-2 when reaching the 87th minute, but then finished 4-4 in the 89th minute.
Then came the moment that Sandro Tonali came from the left touchline and his shot from outside the box and over the keeper in the far bottom corner! Amazing scenes.
Kosovo 2 Sweden 0
A disastrous result that certainly anything but the chance of Sweden to end the top of the group and automatically qualify for the World Cup 2026. With four more rounds of competitions, Switzerland are five points free from the countrymen of Sweden and the fellow countrymen of Fabian Schar, to take that automatic qualification place. Kosovo went 2-0 within 42 minutes and Anthony Elanga could not make enough difference. He gave it everything, but was eventually replaced by a clearly far from match Fit Alexander Isak in 72 minutes, Tomasson has said earlier that lack of football and group training in recent months means that he could not play the striker. A desperate movement with 18 minutes to throw in an ineffective and unsuitable Isak anyway. Emil Krafth also comes in that second half of the bank and picked up a yellow card, just like Alexander Isak.
Greece 0 Denmark 3
Will Osula looked up from the couch while this excellent victory is placed in Denmark in a great position to qualify for the World Cup final next summer.
Kazakhstan under 21s 0 England under 21s 2
Lewis Miley helps the young three lions to a 2-0 win over Kazakhstan U 21s. First half goals of Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri and Jobe Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund who guarantee the victory. The 19 -year -old midfielder of Newcastle United was eventually immersed in 76 minutes as England under 21 years of age.
Tuesday 9 September
Dr. Congo 2 Senegal 3
A nightmare -Klap for Yoane Wissa and Dr. Congo.
The Newcastle striker puts its side 2-0 in this vital World Cup group qualification, only for Senegal to come back and win 3-2 with an 87th minute’s winner. With two more rounds of group competitions, that means late goal that Dr. Congo of favorites has gone to win the group and go to the 2026 World Cup Final, to ruin Senegal in their last two games.
Serbia 0 England 5
Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento both excellent in this qualifying match of the World Cup group. Livarismento played the entire game, while Gordon was immersed with the game won 3-0 and twenty minutes to go. Then Burn is out after playing in the victory over Andorra.
