Evan Rodrigues had a short moment of panic during last season’s NHL -Handelsdeadline – and it had nothing to do with his game. According to Elliote Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcastThe Florida Panthers feared that he was part of the package that was sent to acquire Brad Marchand, thanks to some well -timed jokes in the dressing room.
When the Marchand Trade was announced, the return of the Panthers was not immediately made public. That gap in information gave teammates enough time to stir the pot, and Rodrigues became an unintended victim of their practical jokes.
“They have not announced the return for more than an hour,” said Friedman. The NHL insider said that he was pulled aside by Rodrigues when the team made a trip to Toronto and was told not to wait to announce the details of the trade. Apparently he was led to believe that he went back to Boston in the deal, or at least none of his teammates assured him that was not the case.
“Let teammates play absolutely no practical jokes when they are terrified that they are being treated from a situation in which they are happy,” Friedman joked as she told the story.
Rodrigues is happy with the Panthers
Rodrigues, who signed a four -year -old deal with Florida, was the subject of trade rumors this summer. The Panthers must release the cap space and his name has surfaced. However, he hopes that he will not go anywhere.
Rodrigues has thrive in the Panthers system and wants to remain clear. The idea that he could be moving led to what Friedman described as a mini panic attack. That would suggest that this low season was not the most comfortable, because his name is there again.
