The IIHF European Cup of Nations kicks off today in Edinburgh as Great Britain host Poland, Slovenia and Ukraine at Murrayfield Ice Rink.
The four-team tournament runs until Saturday February 7 with two matches per day in the famous old Scottish barn.
Excitement is high for GB’s first return to Scotland. From the hustle and bustle of the Murrayfield Racers era to today’s capitals, Scottish rinks β and Murrayfield in particular β have provided GB with scorers, playmakers and even elite officials for generations.

In the opening match of the tournament, Poland will play Slovenia (2 p.m.), after which Great Britain will play Ukraine in the evening match (face-off at 6.30 p.m.).

Britain v Ukraine β final meeting
GB and Ukraine met in Romania last year in the World Championship Division I Group A, with Pete Russell’s side recording a dramatic 4-3 victory.
Great Britain had been 2-0 up but had to come from 3-2 down to secure a 4-3 victory after a penalty shootout, as Ben Bowns saved all four Ukrainian penalties on the night he won his 82nd cap and equaled Stevie Lyle for the most appearances by a GB netminder.
Team news
Seven players will make their first appearance for GB at senior level tonight.
Defenders Jake Hayward, Rhodes Mitchell-King and Alex Rimko, along with forwards Ivan BjΓΆrkly NordstrΓΆm, Finley Bradon, Brynley Capps and Austin Mitchell-King, are all in the GB squad for this tournament.
