Sacramento, ca – September 1 – 2025 – The Sacramento Golf Council proudly concluded the 101st California State Fair Championship on the historic Alister Mackenzie Golf Course in Haggin Oaks, with an exciting representation of Elite Amateur Golf Talent for three days of proud competition.
Ethan Gao, from Johns Creek, Georgia, emerged as the 2025 State Fair Champion and delivered a consistent and commander performance with rounds of 67-66-68 for a total of 201 (-15). GAO threw a busy leaderboard to secure the title in one of the most prestigious amateur events in California.
According to Goa, “I was struggling early, I just felt away, but you expect a bit that when you lead in the last round. But I just kept sharpening”
When asked what is crowned the California State Fair champion meant to go Goa “It means a lot, I didn’t win a big tournament in 4 years and I feel that I am around the corner, while Stanford Fall College starts”.
Taylor Knoll from Folsom, CA, and Luke Dugger from Davis, CA, draw for the second on 203 (-13) saw a tightly disputed battle. Knoll made a push in the final round with a 66, while Dugger’s Solid 68 held him to the end.
Close in the back of Solo Fourth, Kavi Marez van Carmichael, CA, ending on 204 (-12). Completion of the top five were Jaden Hunter van Rancho Santa Fe, CA, and Tucker Sweeney van Pasadena, CA, both binding for the fifth on 205 (-11).
A field of 108 of the best amateur players in the west coast and Beyond amateur competed over three rounds on the Par-72 championship course, with the cut line on 1 under par (143) after 36 holes. The leaderboard contained players from the United States and international competitors from France, China and Guam.
Remarkable versions included:
· Reese Sato (folsom, CA), who placed a sizzling second round 63 the lowest round of the tournament.
· Zache Mate (every coarse, ca) and Kyle Dougherty (Irvine, Ca), both of which ended at 206 (-10), bound for the 7th.
The tournament continued its tradition of presenting rising stars and seasoned amateurs at one of the most important public golf locations of California, named after the legendary architect, Alister Mackenzie.

The State Fair Championship was founded in 1924 and is one of the oldest and most respected amateur tournaments in California. Every year organized by the Sacramento Golf Council, it serves as proof of collegiate striking, national champions and future professionals. Earlier champions are Ken Venturi, Al Geiberger, George Archer and Kevin Sutherland.
