Rockets’ fast turnout
The Houston Rockets shocked the NBA last season to jump from a 41-41 record in 2023-24 to a 52-30 finish in 2024-25. That increase ensured the second seed of the Western Conference, an important step forward in their rebuilding. Although they have a disappointing loss of the first round Playoff for the Golden State Warriors members, the campaign was considered a success. Head coach IME Udoka led one of the best defenses in the competition, while Center Alpen Sengun earned its first All-Star selection.
Out of season is now going to win
Instead of being pat, the missiles doubled. General Manager Rafael Stone orchestrated various large movements that were designed to hold Houston in the Contender interview. The most striking thing is that the Kevin Durant team has taken over, a future Hall of Famer who immediately fulfills Houston’s need for a late game scorer. In addition to Durant, the Rockets Veterans added Dorian Finney-Smith and Clint Capela to balance their young core with experience and toughness.
ESPN projections
ESPN’s Panel or NBA Insiders recently projected the 2025-26 rankings and Houston placed on 54-28. That record would keep the rockets at the top of the Western Conference, one match for the Denver Nuggets (53-29) and just behind the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder (64-18). Tim Macmahon from ESPN explained the reasoning behind optimism:
“The rockets were a surprise last season, which rose to the second seed of the west before he shut off in the first round of the play-offs.
Title hopes to grow
The play -off exit of the Rockets 2025 emphasized their lack of attacking firepower in Crunch time. Fred Vanvlet, who had an average of 14.1 points per match, wore a lot of the score tax. That will not be the case this year. The presence of Durant offers Houston a reliable closer, while the addition of more veterans should improve the overall balance. With a balance between young talent, defensive power and new scoring punch, the rockets enter the 2025-26 season, not only as a playoff team, but as a legitimate championship candidate.
