ESPN’s Burke Magnus confirmed that “Inside the NBA” will be for the pregame, resting time and postgame this season. While the crew will broadcast the opening evening on ESPN, they take a break until Christmas Day. They will stand up during the second half of the season and broadcast every night during the NBA play -offs.
“That is our goal,” Magnus said when he was asked if the crew can broadcast as long as they did with TNT. “It will be as close as we can get. I understand that the standard operational procedure has been for us for many years to go to Sports Center. There will be 200 or 300 nights or so that we will still do that.”
On nights in which the “Inside the NBA” team is not there, Magnus said that ESPN will use his “NBA Countdown” team consisting of Malika Andrews, Bob Myers, Kendrick Perkins and Michael Wilbon, among others.
“(Fans) will get the show that they love in a way that looks very much like the way it has always been,” said Magnus. “It is still produced in Atlanta by the same people who have produced it for Turner. It is in their building. Contrary to a logo on the set, it will appear the same, and that is exactly what we want.”
“Inside the NBA” was 35 years on TNT with Ernie Johnson on their entire run. Kenny Smith joined Charles Barkley in 2000 in 1998 and Shaquille O’Neal in 2011. ESPN and TNT reached agreement on a deal to licensed after TNT had lost the media rights agreement with the NBA.
“If these guys go, we will let them go,” said Magnus. “We still have a few complications than gymnast with live events, but we also have more platforms and more networks to deal with. We want the same result as the head here. It would be equivalent if we would acquire College Gameday and then say:” You know what? We think two hours is better than three. ” That is not going to happen. “
