An Epping couple selling their first home were thrilled when it changed hands for $756,000 this weekend.
Husband and wife Roger and Angela listed their home at 10 Mottled Ave with a price expectation of $650,000 – $690,000, but five bidders caused it to sell above price.
Roger said more than a decade ago that when they bought the house in Melbourne’s far north, there was farmland at the end of their street and kangaroos hopping past – although the suburb has swelled in size since then.
He and other residents formed a community association within their Aurora estate to organize activities such as second-hard markets and to talk to local government about issues facing the area.
“We knew a lot of people at the time, so those are the really fond memories we have of the area,” Roger said.
He and Angela bought the three-bedroom house in their 30s, after working hard to save money for a down payment.

Husband and wife Roger and Angela listed their home with a price expectation of $650,000 – $690,000, but five bidders caused it to sell above price.
Roger, who works in IT, said that although it sounded cliché, they raised the funds through “budget and discipline”.
He has since bought and sold two investment properties in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
The growing couple plans to put some of the money from one of the sales toward the purchase of their next home.
Roger said their favorite part of the Epping house was the outdoor space with a garden irrigated from the home’s recycled water supply.
The home with a seven-star energy rating also features two bathrooms, double doors opening to the outdoor area, a double garage and kitchen equipped with a 900mm hob and oven, plus a Bosch dishwasher.

Ray White Wollert principal Michael Assaad said Angela and Roger were ecstatic when their home sold on Saturday for “much more” than he and she expected.
The auction, led by Mr Assaad’s colleague and cousin Mike Assaad, lasted just seven minutes and saw the house put on the market for $726,000.
One of the bidders was an interstate investor, while the four others were from Melbourne.
Mr Assaad said the successful buyer, a local resident, loved how the house looked.
“He said he had gone around the area and seen other houses but nothing was presented like this,” Mr Assaad added.
