Enzo Maresca shows that he can be brave and courageous to make some HUGE changes to the game when things aren’t going well. I like that about him.
He makes killer decisions and isn’t afraid to take players off the field who he believes aren’t doing enough. This may seem harsh to some, but it is desperately needed and I support it. There is NO room for error under Maresca, and he is showing that he is now laying down that law and that there is no excuse for any player not to give 100% and not be fully engaged for the entire match. If you’re not at the races, you’re on the couch. I like that way of working.
Granted, we have injuries at the moment, but we do have a big squad and Maresca can afford to drop you if you don’t perform well. There is always someone else who wants your position and is willing to go the extra mile if you don’t want it. This is a great position to have.
I don’t think we’ve always seen this with Maresca, but he’s growing in stature and confidence now, and he’s becoming more disciplined and making no-nonsense statements.
Making THREE changes at half-time yesterday was a huge risk and decision. But he did it and it changed the game. So much praise for him.
I always like to be balanced on this site, as I say, and I find it as important to give compliments and praise for things like this as to analyze and constructively criticize, which I have done many times and will continue to do with Maresca, any player, director or owner I feel I need to speak about.
So be warned Chelsea players: if you’re ghosting a match or haven’t taken part yet, you best be prepared to sit on the bench instead. Maresca doesn’t accept nonsense and I’m for it!
