England Pacer Verbijsts Cricket Brotherhood, announces pension on 29 to become a lawyer

England Speedster Freya Davies has decided to retire from professional cricket at the age of 29. She will now pursue a career in the law as an intern lawyer, who wants to leave a stamp in a new field. This decision brings the curtains to an illustrious cricket career that included one and a half decade.

Davies earned his first international cap in March 2019, with a T20i against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Her last performance for England came in 2023 against Australia in Edgbaston in Birmingham.

“Good luck for Freya Davies, who made 35 performances for England while she withdraws from Cricket to become a lawyer. The best for the future, Freya!” England Cricket wrote in a statement.

Davies’ cricket started after she only signed Sussex for Sussex. She took very little time to prove her courage in domestic cricket, play for teams such as Western Storm, South East Stars, London Spirit, Welsh Fire, Southern Vipers and Hampshire. The right-wing Pacer played a key role in Sussex’s County Championship Triumph 2013 and made 86 performances for her home district.

In 2019, Davies was the highest wicket task in the Cricket Super League for ladies with 19 scalp. Internationally she appeared between 2019 and 2023 for England in 35 games in ODIs and T20Is and picked up 33 wickets, including a trek of four wicket against New Zealand in Wellington. Davies ends with an average of 31.10 in ODIs and 23.21 in T20Is.

Her last competitive appearance was for Hampshire in the one -day cup final against Lancashire in the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Sunday 21 September. In that tournament, where Hampshire closed, she was good for 19 wickets of 14 games, including the best figures of 9.5-0-39-4 against Surrey in the Semifinals. In addition, Davies played in 37 hundred games for women and picked up 36 wickets for London Spirit and Welsh Fire.

In the 2025 edition of the Women’s Hundred, she picked up eight wickets in the same number of competitions for Welsh Fire on an average of 21.37. Unfortunately Welsh Fire finished last on the point table.
