Ladies

It was a sleek first weekend in the Womens Division One North with three draw and only one match decided by more than a goal. Promoted Leeds lost 2-1 in their Yorkshire Derby at Ben Rhydding. The other promoted team, Loughborough Students 2, also lost on the road, 3-1 in Buckingham. Sutton Coldfield returns after a season in the top flight, saw 1-1 drawing in Beeston, who finished second last time. It was the same score line in the Pendle Forest – Repton Game. Gloucester City came from 2-0 in the last quarter to pull 2-2 with Olton & West Warwicks.

Relegated Holcombe made a great start in their search to return to the Premier Division that won 6-2 at Harleston Magpies with six different scorers on the team magazine. The battle for the promoted teams went the way to read 2s with two Kathryn Podch goals that helped them with a 2-1 win at Teddington. Maria Andrews hit a late winner to give Bristol Firebrands the points in a 3-2 victory over Southgate. Exeter University defeated Sevenoaks 3-1 and Guildford-Surbiton 2s competition ended 2-2.

Both promoted teams made winning starts in Conference West. A Jamie Bulbring goal was enough for Cardiff & met each other to win 1-0 at Exeter and Oxford University won an exciting match at Clifton Robinsons 2S with Claire McFall a overtime corner to achieve a 4-3 victory. Team Bath Buccaneers won 3-0 on Marlow and Lansdown also won 2-1 in the relegated Slough. Milly Chatterley scored twice when Trojans lit 4-0 past Cheltenham.

The conference of last season North Runner-Up Fylde was 2-1 beaten on Bowdon 2S. Kirkby Stephen and Wakefield played two divisions last season, but after promotion for the cumbrians and relegation for the Yorkshire team that they met for the first time and pulled 2-2. Last season’s conference East Runner-Up Hampstead & Westminster 2S started with a 3-1 at Old Georgians. Disgled Wimbledon 2S were helped at a 3-3 draw in Guildford 2S by a Lola Bryant-Brace. Katie Maccallum also scored twice for old Loughtonians who defeated Canterbury 3-1. Promoted Barnes 2S Drew 2-2 at Spencer and London Wayfarers conquered Wapping 2-1.

Open/men’s

In Open/Men’s Division One South, the Indian Gymkhana started in second place last season with an emphatic 6-2 victory in Richmond that were relegated after a season in the Premier Division. Teddington was also in the goals and defeated Havant 5-0. The two promoted teams, Surbiton 2S and Guildford, drew 1-1 and there were home wins for Oude Loughtonians, 2-0 above Canterbury and Exeter University, 3-1 against Sevenoaks.

Digguing Bowdon made a positive start in Division One North and won 4-0 at Birmingham University. All other games that were concluded also saw victories. Loughborough students won 1-0 at Nottingham University, Repton made a good start to their Division One debut with a 2-1 win at Durham University and Olton & West Warwicks won the honor in the West Midlands Derby with a 3-2 victory at Harborne. Deeside Ramblers and Timperley will have to try again after their match was defeated by the weather.

After a season in Division One, Lindum returned to Conference North and made a flying start and won 6-0 at Oxton, including a hat trick for Sam Dixon. Norwich City won 5-2 at Birmingham University 2S, and the promoted parties also got away with victories-City of Peterborough 4-2 in Banbury and seemed a hat trick with Ben White with Ben White.

London Wayfarers who narrowly missed conference East last season were held 1-1 by Brighton & Hove. There were several fortunes for promoted teams, Southgate 2S won 2-0 in Bromley & Beckenham while Holcombe 2s went 4-1 in Old Cranleighhan.
