EHL for women

Gloucester City retained top spot in Women’s Division One North after a resounding 6-2 defeat to previously unbeaten Beeston, the Nottingham side’s first defeat since September 2024. Jess Roe hit a hat-trick of corners either side of half-time in the win, meaning they move one point ahead of Buckingham, who beat Leeds 4-2 and are two points further back Sutton Coldfield, who ran out 5-1 winners over Pendle Forest, including a brace for long-serving Vicky Woolford. Loughborough Students 2s are level on points with Sutton Coldfield after a 2-0 win over Ben Rhydding, who are now bottom. There was a first win for Olton & West Warwicks, 2-0 against Repton, which took them off the foot of the table.

Holcombe remain top of Division One South, with the teams in the top half of the table beating the teams in the bottom half at the end of the game. Valentina Turienzo scored twice as Holcombe won 3-1 at Southgate. They lead Exeter University and Reading 2s on goal difference. Exeter needed an Emily Maclean corner in the 65th minute to get past Bristol Firebrands 4–3 and Reading beat bottom of the table Harleston Magpies 1–0. Teddington, who also beat Guildford 1-0, is one point behind. Surbiton 2s moved up the table after their 4-0 win against Sevenoaks.

Cardiff & Met have made a great start since their promotion to Conference West, making it four wins in four with a 3-2 victory over Trojans. Alana Hamilton Tombs scored twice, including a winner in the 69th minute, after the Trojans fought back from two down with eight minutes to go to level things up. Cardiff are two points ahead of Team Bath Buccaneers and Oxford University. Bath took honors in their derby, with Clifton Robinson’s 2s winning 2-1 thanks to a last-gasp corner from Charlotte Barr. Oxford beat bottom of the table Slough 3-0, Lansdown won by the same score at local rivals Cheltenham and Marlow beat Exeter 3-1.

Alderley Edge and Bowdon 2s both have a 100% record in Conference North, with the former leading on goal difference. Both achieved narrow victories on Saturday under different circumstances. A goal from Darcey Pawezowski was enough for Alderley Edge to win 1-0 at Durham University 2s, while Bowdon beat Kirkby Stephen 5-4 to fall 4-2 behind in the final quarter after Martha Bainbridge scored a hat-trick for the Cumbrians. Whitley Bay & Tynemouth are five points behind after their 1-0 win over Wakefield. Newcastle University defeated Didsbury Northern 5-2 and Fylde picked up their first point in a 2-2 draw in Sheffield.

St Albans, who won 4-1 at Stourport, top the Conference Midlands on 10 points and lead a chasing group of four teams, all of whom won by one point this weekend. Cambridge City won 8-0 at bottom of the table, Harleston Magpies 2s, with Emily McStea, Emilia Noordhuis and Rhianne Noor all claiming braces. Leicester City defeated Nottingham Trent University 2-0, the students still need to get a point. Cambridge University defeated Cannock 3-1 and Birmingham University 2s were 4-2 winners at Oxford Hawks.

London Wayfarers remain top of the Conference East with a 4-2 win over Guildford to move to 4th within 36 minutes. Old Loughtonians are one point back after their 3-0 defeat to Barnes 2 and they lead Hampstead & Westminster 2s on goal difference after Hampstead’s 2-1 win against Wimbledon 2s. Spencer lost ground after being held 1-1 by Canterbury, where former international colleagues Laura Unsworth and Susannah Townsend were in the opposition dugouts as coaches. Old Georgians and Wapping drew 0-0.

Open/Men EHL

Promoted Repton continued their great start in Open/Men’s Division One North with a 6-1 win at Olton & West Warwicks, maintaining their 100% record, with James Sookias and Ed Wilkins both scoring twice. Two of their biggest rivals, Bowdon and Loughborough Students, played out a 2-2 draw, meaning Loughborough leads Repton by two points. Bowdon are fourth, behind Harborne on goal difference, after the latter’s 3-0 win in their Town v Gown clash with Birmingham University. Birmingham is without a point at the foot of the table. Durham University won 3-1 at Deeside Ramblers and Nottingham University 4-0 at Timperley, with the two defeated sides drawing 2-2 in Sunday’s rearranged match.

Exeter University recorded four wins from four to lead Division One South by two points after a 6-3 defeat to Canterbury. Indian Gymkhana, in second place, also scored heavily, beating bottom-table Havant 5-3. Guildford moved up to third place after a 2-1 away win at Teddington. Marcus Ambrose hit the winner for Sevenoaks with two minutes left on the clock to secure a 4-3 win over Old Loughtonians. Richmond, who were winless on their return to this level before Saturday, bounced back from victory by beating Surbiton 2s 4-2.

Leeds and Neston both kept up their perfect starts in Conference North with comfortable wins. Leeds, who are top on goal difference, beat Lindum 4-1, with Robert Goldthorp scoring a hat-trick. Ollie Mills did the same in Neston’s 6-0 win against Durham University 2s. Matt Gibson made it a hat-trick of hat-tricks in the Division in Doncaster’s 6-2 defeat to bottom of the table Oxton, moving Doncaster into third place. Cameron Hallowes scored twice in Sheffield’s Yorkshire derby 3-1 win over scoreless Ben Rhydding. Didsbury Northern returned with three points from Newcastle University after a 3-2 win.

Chichester remain top of the Conference West but had to work hard for the points at the hands of Marlow at the bottom of the table, running out 3-2 winners. They go two points clear at the top while their nearest rivals dropped points. Clifton Robinsons drew 2-2 with Team Bath Buccaneers, leading through two corners from Ben Shardlow to a 64th-minute equalizer from Henry Swan. Ashmoor lost 3-2 to Fareham. Isca won for the first time 3-1 at neighbors Exeter University 2s and Rhys Gowman scored twice as Cardiff & Met 2s also picked up their first three points in a 3-1 win against Bristol University.

Five teams are on seven points in the Conference East and only two points separate first to eighth places in a crowded table. A late goal from James Cutter, his second of the match, earned Old Cranleighan a 2-2 draw at London Wayfarers and they go top. Wayfarers have drawn three of their four matches so far. Previous leaders Chelmsford were defeated 3-2 at Bromley & Beckenham to drop to second place, while BromBeck joined the group with seven points. Hampstead & Westminster 2s are third after a 5-3 win over Wimbledon 2s, with Matt Guise-Brown scoring four corners. Spencer are fourth thanks to their 3-0 win at Brighton & Hove. Southgate 2s and Holcombe 2s played out a 2-2 draw.

Ben White scored twice for Conference Midlands leaders Leek, who defeated Norwich City 3-1. City of Peterborough, who were second and unbeaten going into the weekend, were beaten 2-1 at Nottingham University 2s, who replace them one point behind in the table. St Albans, who won 1-0 at Stourport, are still a point behind. Oxford Hawks put seven past Birmingham University 2’s without reply and Banbury took their first win, 2-1 at Barford Tigers.
