Shubman Gill Defended Indian coach Gautam Gambhir defended after being involved in a heated fight with the pitch curator of Oval, Lee Fortis on Tuesday 29 July, during a training session. Fortis was not too happy with Indian team management, the pitch for the fifth and last test match against England, which will start on Thursday 31 July.

The Surrey Head constituent wanted India to be 2.5 meters away from the field while he inspected it. A furious Gambhir was seen that pointed a finger at Fortis and told him that he is “just a groundman”.

“What happened yesterday, I thought it was just absolutely unnecessary. It is not the first time we look at the Wicket, we have been there for almost two months. A coach has the right to be able to go close and take a look at the Wicket and I thought there was nothing wrong.

Gill remembered that no other curator at the four previous locations in the series – Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s and Old Trafford – had imposed restrictions on India’s ability to view the field or square.

“As long as I remember, we never received instructions. As long as you wear rubber spikes or [are] You can see the wicket up close. We have already played four games in this series and nobody has stopped us from looking at the field. We all played so much cricket, we went to the throws so often, including the coaches and captain, I don’t know what the hassle was about, “Gill added.

When a team lags behind in a series, the players and the people in management sometimes lose their heads quite easily. Gill was asked if it was 1-2 in the series of five games and the associated pressure was the reason behind the animated reaction of Gambhir. However, the Punjab fittings denied this.

“Not really. If a pitch curator will come and ask us not to watch the wicket and watch the wicket from three meters behind, that is not something that happened to us earlier. We have done cricket for so long and as long as you wear rubber spikes or are a bare feet, you can watch the wicket.

Shubman Gill explains the relationship with England team

The Indian players have had a number of heated arguments with their English counterparts during the first four test matches. In the most recent meeting, the captain Ben Stokes from England continued to smoke after Ravindra Jadeja had rejected a handshake and continued to hit until he and Washington Sundar got their centuries.

Despite the different heated fairs, Gill said that the relationship between the two teams is fantastic and it is just that they do not give each other an inch when they are on the field.

“The relationship is fantastic, but when you are on the field, you try to win a game at the end of the day, and both teams have been very competitive and sometimes if you are competitive in the heat of the moment, do or say things you might not do,” he said. “But as soon as the game is over, there is mutual respect between the two teams,” Gill said.
