A waxwork figure of French President Emmanuel Macron was stolen from a museum in Paris by environmental activists who disguise themselves as employees.

Greenpeace -activists entered the Grevin museum as tourists before they change their clothes, cover the statue with a blanket and remove it through an emergency exit, a police source told the French news agency AFP.

The waxwork later appeared outside the Russian embassy, where activists denounced Macron’s attitude towards French companies that continue to do business with Russia since the full invasion of Ukraine.

Macron has been one of the most vocal supporters of KYIV and has been a leading figure in European efforts to protect a cease -the fire.

Images showed activists who placed the washing work for the embassy alongside signs and placards.

No arrests have been made and the washing work, a reported € 40,000 (£ 33.765; $ 45,674), has not yet been found.

Jean-Francois Julliard, head of Greenpeace France, said AFP that Paris “played a double match” in supporting Ukraine, while French companies continue to import gas and fertilizer from Russia.

He said that Macron “embodies this double discourse” and “the first” should be among European leaders who ends trade contracts with Russian companies.

Analysis by the BBC in May Showed that Russia continued to make billions from the export of fossil fuels to the West, including to the EU.

Russia had made more than € 883 billion (£ 740 billion; $ 973 billion) in turnover from the export of fossil fuels since the start of the full invasion of Ukraine in 2022, including € 228 billion from countries that have punished it, According to the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).

The lion’s share, € 209 billion (£ 176 billion; $ 238 billion), came from the EU member states – of that figure, € 17.9 billion (£ 15.1 billion; $ 20.4 billion) from France.

The estimates of Russian estimates say that the export from gas to Europe has risen by a maximum of 20% in 2024, with the export of liquid natural gas (LNG) achieving record levels. Currently, half of the LNG export from Russia goes to the EU, says Crea.

In addition to offering military aid to Kiev, France has also imposed a number of sanctions on Russia and Russian people since the war in Ukraine began.

Macron has also warned of further sanctions on Moscow if it does not work in attempts to negotiate a ceasefire.
