Emma Raducanu crashed in the straight sets from the Canadian Open, with 6-2, 6-1 to the American fifth seed Amanda Anisimova dropped in the third round.

Raducanu had won both earlier meetings, but rarely looked like expanding that run while she only kept her in both set in Montreal once.

Anisimova, who made the Wimbledon final in July, came down from 40-15 to break the serve of Raducanu in the second game of the match and although the British No. 1 immediately broke back, she was unable to make another breaking point in the game.

The American broke again to bring the score to 3-1 and added a third break to complete the set. Her dominance took place in the second set when Raducanu won only eight points on her own serve and avoided the Whitewash after losing the first five games.

Anisimova served to book a place in the fourth round, where she will encounter the 10th seed Elina Svitolina, who stormed on Friday night past Anna Kalinskaya 6-1, 6-1.

Iga świątek needed a little more than an hour to complete a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Eva Lys of Germany. The Wimbledon champion is then confronted with Clara Tauson van Denmark, who beat Yuliia Starodubtseva 6-3, 6-0.

Jessica Pegula’s offer for a third straight Montreal title was terminated by TheW Orld no. 386 Anastasija Sevastova. The Latvian, a former world no. 11 that has had long-term spells about maternity leave and with a torn ACL, defeated the third seed Pegula 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to book a date with Naomi Osaka.
