The British Emma Raducanu was defeated 6-4 6-3 by the Russian Anna Kalinskaya in the semi-final of the Washington.

The 22-year-old, whose run in the United States has ensured that she will regain her British number one place of Katie Boulter, served at the beginning of five Azen, but could not convert any of her four breaking point options.

Kalinskaya, arranged in two places under Raducanu on 48th in the world, benefited from a break in the ninth game on the way to the first set.

The two exchanged early breaks in the second set before the 26-year-old Russian pulled forward again, a lead that turned out to be decisive and broke again to seal the victory.

“It was an interesting game. It’s nice to play against Emma,” said Kalinskaya, who wants to win her first WTA 500 title. “I am proud of myself. I remained aggressive and kept holding on to my plan.”

Kalinskaya will be confronted with Leylah Fernandez in Sunday’s final after the Canadian has eliminated the third seed Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan in an epic meeting with three tie-breaks.

Fernandez, who defeated Raducanu to win her US open title in 2021, had the upper hand on 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-3) after three hours and 12 minutes.

During the men’s event, Alex de Minaur in Australia won a 6-4 6-3 semi-final victory over the French lucky loser Corentin Moutet.

The Minaur plays the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final, after the 12th seed beat the American fourth seed Ben Shelton with 6-2 7-5.
