Jones, one of Australia’s promising tennis players, is only seventeen, but has been playing professionally for three seasons.
In January 2023, Jones received a qualifying wildcard for her home tournament in Hobart. The following year, the promising Australian also made his debut at Melbourne Park by taking part in the qualifying event.
Since then, the 17-year-old has recorded her first WTA main draw win by beating Wang Xinyu in Adelaide earlier this year. The 17-year-old also made her Grand Slam main draw debut after receiving a wildcard into the main draw. She is currently ranked No. 151 in the world – which is just one spot lower than her career-high ranking of No. 150.
While Jones is certainly happy that she launched her tennis career early and successfully, she emphasizes that not everything is ideal.
Jones: I don’t really have my tennis friends anymore… It can get lonely sometimes
“I don’t really have my school friends anymore. I have a lot of tennis friends… but it can get lonely sometimes, especially when I’m on the women’s tour,” said the three-time ITF champion. Herald Sun.
During the Tour, Jones is constantly accompanied by her mother Loretta Harrop, a former Australian triathlon star and Olympic silver medalist.
“Sending her alone was never an option for us, we always made sure one of us was with her. The aim is to create a buffer against the loneliness of the women’s competition. It is important that she stays happy and mentally in a good state and we don’t want her to get lonely because she is still so young in the women’s competition,” said Harrop.
Jones concluded her 2025 season by winning the ITF Playford and finishing second at the ITF Sydney.
