Venu Srinivasan received the prestigious CII Quality Ratna Award in Kolkata on Tuesday
The 33rd CII Excellence Summit, organized by the CII Institute of Quality in Kolkata, brought together more than 1,000 quality champions and business leaders committed to increasing Indian manufacturing from 3 percent to about 25 percent of global production, while creating about 100 million jobs and making India one of the top three manufacturing centers in the world.
‘Offer value’
“Technology and social aspirations are the driving force behind new products and services. Designs should be customer-led; a deep understanding of customer requirements is necessary before designing a product or service. Trust in employees comes first as employees take care of customers. Offer value in every product or service you offer, live by values and serve the customer to ensure lifelong service,” said Srinivasan, who accepted the honor.
R Mukundan, President-designate of CII and MD & CEO of Tata Chemicals, welcomed the participants and said the call for 2047 is for every citizen, entrepreneur and policymaker to take action to join hands for manufacturing excellence and sustainable development.
Soumitra Bhattacharya, Chairman, CII Institute of Quality, said: “To improve the Viksit Bharat To achieve the 2047 target, the manufacturing sector must increase its contribution to national GDP from the current level of around 15 to 17 percent to at least 25 percent. This requires an annual growth rate of approximately 15 percent for the manufacturing sector.”
Achieving manufacturing excellence involves a holistic strategy focused on continuous improvement and high performance in quality, cost, speed and safety, Bhattacharya said. Setting clear objectives, empowering employees, optimizing processes through methods such as lean manufacturing and leveraging technology for data-driven decision-making would be key.
