Eli Stowers | Tight end | Vanderbilt University

Height: 6’4”
Weight: 235 pounds.

Eli Stowers had an extremely interesting journey through the ranks of the university. Originally recruited as a 4-star QB prospect out of Denton Guyer High School in Denton, Texas, he began his career at Texas A&M. He played a total of five games in two seasons with the Aggies. After a disappointing start to his college journey, Stowers decided to transfer to the New Mexico State Aggies. He spent his lone season in Las Cruces moving to the tight end position.

It was also when he first met and played with Diego Pavia at New Mexico State. The pair would transfer to Vanderbilt together and put the Commodores on the map. Stowers served as the school’s top pass catcher, leading the team in catches in both 2024 and 2025, and was named 1st Team All-SEC in each season. Stowers completed his college run with career highs in catches and yards and by winning the coveted Mackey Award as The Nation’s Top Tight End.

Rookie profile | Strengths and weaknesses

The first thing you notice about Stowers is that he is an elite athlete. Vanderbilt made ample use of splitting Eli in the slot and getting him on smaller nickel corners. He could also take his route between the hash marks into the linebacker area. When he gets into that part of the field, he’s way too athletic for linebackers.

Stowers is a bit on the light side for an NFL tight end. He’s built more like Brock Bowers than Rob Gronkowski. But this is good for our purposes in the dynasty fantasy football community. Stowers are used as a weapon in the receiving game, as opposed to an in-line blocker.

Eli Stowers is an incredibly fluid athlete. He is a strong hands catcher and does not let the ball get into his body. Once he catches the ball, he is very good at creating yards after the catch. Think about it in this context: Stowers, the Mackey Award winner, averaged a whopping 6.1 yards per catch. That’s just off the pace of Biletnikoff receiver Makai Lemon, who averaged 6.4 YPC and is considered one of the more dynamic playmakers in the class.

When you put the entirety of this player together, you have something very special. You have a passing tight end who has the ball in his hands and the brains of a former quarterback. Stowers uses his feel for the play to find the weak spots in zone coverage and the ability to sit down, giving his quarterback a safe space to deliver the ball. He will be a quarterback’s best friend, just like he was with Diego Pavia.

Eli Stowers | Breakdown of all 22 films

One of the biggest benefits of a Nerd Herd subscription is access to our All-22 Film Room. We have a number of Vanderbilt games available. For this article, the Texas game stands out. The tight end roasted the Longhorns for 7 catches, 146 yards and two scores.

You will immediately notice the high percentage of plays that Stowers splits in the slot. The All-22 also shows that he was open a lot in this game; his numbers could have been even greater. He’s such a smooth runner that he almost resembles a big wide receiver. He is a natural hand catcher with loose hips and steps in and out of his cuts with ease. There isn’t a whole lot of blocking to look at in the Texas game, but that’s to be expected at the next level. That said, he does show glimpses of being a willing blocker when needed.

Concept Capital | Potential landing sites

I may be on an island here, but Eli Stowers is my TE1 in this class. Many will have his counterpart Kenyon Sadiq of Oregon as top executive. In my opinion, that island got a little brighter when Stowers took home this year’s Mackey Award.

With that in mind, I believe he will be taken in the second round of the upcoming NFL Draft. The Miami Dolphins or the Kansas City Chiefs would be fantastic and logical landing spots. Based on recent history, the 3rd round’s draft capital is likely his minimum. With the exception of Jake Butt, who was drafted after tearing his knee in the Michigan bowl game, only Harrison Bryant was selected outside the top three rounds, and he was taken in the fourth round. That’s an excellent trend for Stowers’ draft prospects.
