Antoine Kina will concentrate on his club career at Gantoise after his decision to withdraw this week from the Belgian Red Lions after a shimmering career that brought Olympic, World Cup and European Gold.
He announced the news on Instagram and said: “After many unforgettable years with the Red Lions, I want to share with you that I have decided to leave the national team.
“It has been a true honor to represent my country all those years. Together we have lived incredible moments and achieved everything there was to win. We became European champions, world champions and Olympic champions. I am extremely proud of and deeply grateful for.
“Yet this feels like the right time for me to follow a new path. The time has come to concentrate on my professional career outside of hockey, something I look forward to and where I can continue to build my future.
“Of course this does not mean that I say goodbye to hockey. On the contrary: I keep playing with full bet in the blue and white colors of Gantoise, and I am looking forward to becoming an even stronger player in the coming years. Gantoise is the club of my heart.
“I really admire his vision, ambition and the constant drive for improvement that defines the club’s approach. Thank you for your support. You really made this trip special.”
Gantoise won the EHL last season last season and then won the Belgian championship and continued them directly to the EHL Final8 Next Easter.
