Egypt won the men’s gold medal at the 2025 ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Cup at the Turnstone Center on Saturday, beating Brazil 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21) in the final to hand the South Americans their only defeat of the tournament. The result came two years after Egypt finished second on home soil in Cairo, completing its rise from silver to gold.

The African champions showed powerful serves, solid blocking and good teamwork to end their campaign on top of the podium. Brazil also progressed from their fifth-place finish in 2023, earning their first medal in the men’s competition.

Egypt opened the match with confidence, finding the rhythm early through sharp attacks and well-placed serves. Their efficiency on the attacking line proved decisive, beating Brazil 11-8 in kills, while adding two aces to maintain control. Hesham El Shwikh and Ahmed Mohamed Soliman (Khamis) led the attack with four points each, while Gustavo Henrique De Jesus and Luis Fabiano Oliveira equaled their total but lacked consistent support from their side. Egypt’s steady form took them to a 25-19 victory in the first set.

Brazil responded with a much stronger second frame, racing to a 6-2 lead thanks to sharper attacks and improved defense. Gilberto Lourenco Da Silva, better known as Giba, helped stabilize the game as Egypt struggled with unforced errors. Despite a brief Egyptian rally led by Khamis, Brazil regained control through quick net play and precise sideouts. Gustavo’s attack from the right flank secured a 24-20 set point, and a blockout on Wellington’s swing sealed the 25-22 victory to level the match.

Egypt regrouped in the third set with more composure and organization. Saad Moussa El Sayed continued the attack with four points as Egypt moved to a 17-10 lead. Although Wellington engineered a brief Brazilian comeback, Egypt’s 3-1 run and strong serving pressure kept them in charge. Their serves repeatedly found open spaces as Brazil’s attack faltered under pressure. Khamis completed a dominant service run to close the set 25-15, restoring Egypt’s one-set lead.

Determined to extend the match, Brazil started the fourth energetically, building a 6-2 lead after an impressive block from Oliveira. However, Egypt quickly turned the momentum around with aggressive swings from the flanks and a disciplined service run from Khamis pushing them into a 9-6 lead. Ahmed Zikry’s blocking presence in the middle helped keep Egypt in control as they led 12-8.

Brazil fought to close the gap but the Egyptian structure held firm as they moved within reach of the World Cup title at 22-18. Brazil cut the margin to two before a netted attack gave Egypt a championship point at 24-20. Khamis then delivered the winning blow with a spike that deflected off the Brazilian block and went out of play, sealing a 25-21 finish and the gold medal.

Hesham El Shwikh led Egypt with 16 points, while Mohamed Abou Elzayeid (Aballa) added 14 points and Khamis 13 points. Gustavo led Brazil’s scoring with 15 points, followed by Giba with 12 points.
