Samara Capital-Backed Edme Insurance Brokers (formerly Aditya Birla Insurance Brokers) has acquired the minority interest of UIB International in UIB Insurance Brokers India, which will then be merged with Edme.

The transaction, a collaboration with the majority shareholders Indorama SPL Group and Lucas & Mayo Group, completes the strategic assessment and sales process.

UIB International is the holding of London-based UIB group, one of the largest private independent international insurance and reinsurance brokers.

Edme Insurance Brokers and UIB Insurance Brokers (India) will integrate their companies in India after required approvals of the regulations.

“This is the combined entity. Together we will generate about £ 850 in income, which ensures a very large company, which means we have size and scale and a real goal,” said Sanjay Radhakrishnan, CEO of Edme Insurance.

He added that UIB would “yield a phenomenal amount of capacities in reinsurance, in oil and gas and on the bank side.” Edme would have possibilities on certain other lines of companies, such as metal and mining, certain infrastructure, electricity, construction and cars, he added.

The merged entity is intended to have a significant presence in wholesalers, reinsurance and retail makings, offering value-accreditive insurance solutions and on technology and applied risk management solutions to customers on the Indian market.

Edme actively strives for growth through acquisitions and Radhakrishnan said it was already evaluating about acquisition possibilities in Dubai and Singapore.
