AFF identity Eddie McGuire has sensationally revealed that he was trying to buy the Gold Coast Suns.

In a development that will numb many Footy fans, the former Collingwood president dropped the bomb on Nine’s Eddie and Jimmy Podcast with Geelong Great Jimmy Bartel.

McGuire dropped the bomb that he was considering launching an acquisition of the Suns while discussing a Footy Academy in the Northern Territory.

He thought that the academy in the Top end players should send players to the Noord -Melbourne Kangaroos, whose slow rebuilding continues.

‘Eddie Everywhere’ was adamant to the Suns – who have never played Finals Footy who went back in 2011 to their entry into the competition – already a competitive selection.

“I was actually approached to see if I could buy them (Gold Coast) … we had a conversation,” he told a stunned Bartel.

‘There was no such way, but we did it, others were involved, some big names in football and business and the like.

“(By saying that) Collingwood is my heart, I’m not going to do anything against the cakes.

‘Just look and go through it and how you could set it up, the Gold Coast can be a powerhouse.

“If there was a team outside of Collingwood that I could buy, I would buy them.”

In the meantime, the channel has also proposed nine identity an AFFet bud that he believes that they would encourage those present, increase TV reviews and protect future media rights agreements.

McGuire’s radical proposal would break the AFP draw in three parts-to-one home-and-road season over 17 rounds, a qualification system followed by a last eight confrontation to the grand finale.

He would also introduce a few ‘exotic rounds’ that would first see all 10 Victorian teams play in the first round.

Elsewhere Queensland would stand in line against the NSW teams and South -Australian teams would tackle the West -Australian teams.

A second exotic round can be played in South Australia when the Staats hosts gather, which is locked up to at least 2026.
