The British and Irish lion captain Maro Itoje hopes that Australia wants to money laundering his side after Henry Pollock has revealed that the team wants to win the series 3-0.
After six warm -up matches, the Lions play their first test against Australia This Saturday at 11 am (structure from 10 am), Live on Sky SportsIn Brisbane while they are looking for their first series victory since 2013, which also came across the Wallabies.
Their last 3-0 series victory in Australia was in 1904, while the 1974 team, which is considered the biggest ever, won three tests and a pulled in South Africa.
“I think that is definitely the ambition. It goes without saying, nobody wants to lose a game,” said Itoje of Pollock’s comments.
“It would be a bit strange if one of my teammates said:” We want to win two and lose one, “that would be a bit strange.
“I hope it is also Australia’s ambition to win all games. We want to win every game we play. But all our focus is on this Saturday, the other two games will take care of themselves.”
On Monday, the Lions de Scotland Trio Rory Sutherland, Ewan Ashman and Darcy Graham announced to the team to offer coverage after the first test.
Head coach Andy Farrell mentioned a 38 players team in May, but since he arrived in Australia, Jamie Osborne, Hooker Jamie George and Prop Tom Clarkson have also been added.
“Andy called them in because he believes it will help us achieve our goal to win a way,” said Itoje.
“All players who are engaged are quality players. They have a high level of experience and have achieved things in their career. We are all in this together.
“It doesn’t matter if there is a late call. In the past we have seen late call -ups who have had enormous consequences on the Tour in positive ways. I have no doubt that everyone who called has called plays a role in the team that achieved their goal.”
Itoje, who is the first black captain of the Lions, has played more and more in the warming matches that led to the first test.
The 30-year-old says: “It is a great honor” to be part of a Third Lions tour and thinks it is “different” than any other competition, including the Six Nations of Rugby World Cup.
“Of course there is a grinding of the mind in the test week. There is probably a higher level of focus,” he said.
“The quality of our opposition this week will be considerably higher than what we have confronted so far. We know that there will be a big step.
“As we get closer to the game, we get sharper. There is a healthy tension in the team because we know that this is where we have worked.”
