Eddie Howe’s Plan for Nick Woltemade has been blown out of the water

Please go back Nick Woltemade.

Undoubtedly, many Newcastle United fans will shout: “What are you talking about?”

What else would we do if you were talking about the new record signature of Newcastle United ???

Let me explain.

Eddie Howe’s plan for Nick Woltemade has been blown out of the water.

I think without a doubt, the plan was this.

Yoane Wissa would start against Wolves, then Nick Wolade introduced at a certain point of the couch. Preferably with United a few goals up! In short, minimal pressure on him.

Then the same against Barcelona on Thursday and against Bournemouth a week on Sunday.

I did not assume that NUFC will be a few goals against Barcelona on Thursday (although I have seen that before …) and indeed nor did I expect that as a possibility in Bournemouth (although that happened earlier, bizarre when we were stuck with Steve Bruce and a certain Eddie Howe took care of the guys). However, I expected that Wissa would also start against both teams, with Nick Woltemade again from the bank in both games.

Then the reduced pressure starts for the life of Eddie Howe with Newcastle United, who saw Woltemade start and then starts a week against Lower League Bradford in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Then we had Friday morning’s revelation.

Eddie Howe reveals that Yoane Wissa had taken up an injury while he was gone with Dr. Congo and for an unknown time will be.

You couldn’t make up for it.

Yoane Wissa had played in 107 of the last 114 Premier League matches in the most recent three seasons for Brentford.

The striker played in all 38 of Brentford’s PL matches in the 2022/23 season,

Wissa then played in 34 of the 38 PL matches in 2023/24, the four he missed, were gone with Dr. Congo during the African Cup of Nations in the mid -season.

When last season (2024/25), Yoane Wissa played in 35 of the 38 Premier League matches of Brentford and I think the three he missed were due to a single/foot injury collected in September 2024.

So actually, a maximum of three Premier League matches missed by injuries in the last 114 for Brentford in the past three seasons, so Yoane Wissa would clearly pick up an injury when he was to make his Newcastle United debut!

Back Nick Woltemade

That brings me back to our new signing of the record.

I was confident that Yoane Wissa would hit the ground.

Years of Premier League experience behind him and I am sure that Wissa would have been on Match One.

I am confident that Nick Wolade will be a success for Newcastle United in the long term, but in the short term we may have to be patient.

This is a young and relatively inexperienced striker who so far only started 32 top class matches in his career, in the Bundesliga. He had very limited opportunities with Werder Bremen and that is why he decided not to sign a new contract and instead moved to Stuttgart instead instead in the summer of 2024.

A huge breakthrough season followed, regularly received first team Football, scored 17 goals in competition and cup, including one in the German Cup final. Nick Woltemade follows that last summer with six goals as a top scorer in the euro under 21 with Germany.

He can walk the ground against Wolves this afternoon and I would love it, just love it, if he gets an early goal to calm his and our nerves!

However, if he takes the time to find his feet, making this step to the Premier League and starts with just 32 Top Tier League earlier, don’t go on his back.

I currently have no seasonal card and so when I go to home games, I am in a different part of St James’ Park every game.

Without failure, wherever I am, there will be one or more Newcastle United fans who will constantly moan and moan, they will usually have someone who mainly keeps them to criticize and use an excuse to do this, even for imaginary violations!

The vast majority of fans of Match Going is of course of course supportive.

However, I think we all have to make a special effort, against Wolves this afternoon, to find out our huge new signing.

We wish you the very best Nick Woltemade (am I the only one who still says ‘Voldemort’ when I try to say his name ???) and today your Newcastle United Adventure.
