After a run of six defeats in seven Premier League games until the end of November, Daniel Farke was the latest favorite to ‘win’ the sack race.

However, he has ‘lost’ to the likes of Enzo Maresca and Ruben Amorim, while the clowns running Chelsea and Man U continue to do their job.

Leeds United’s owners were rewarded for not giving him the push as Daniel Farke went on to complete a seven-match unbeaten run.

This run has only produced two wins and five draws, but that was enough to lift Leeds eight points above the relegation zone.

Daniel Farke will now take his Leeds team to St James’ Park on Wednesday evening and has spoken ahead of the match: “For me, Newcastle United is one of the top teams in this competition. Eddie Howe is generally doing a fantastic job.”

The Leeds boss sees another great season for Eddie Howe.

In such a tight competition, Newcastle are now just two points behind the top five and Daniel Farke states: [Newcastle United are] One of the big names in this competition and also one of the top sides and they have every chance to finish in a similar position to where they finished last season.”

Newcastle United have been in such impressive form at St James’ Park that all of their last eleven home games have featured at least two goals in each match for NUFC, contributing to nine wins and two draws in their last eleven games on Tyneside.

Daniel Farke admits: “Newcastle United always seem to play more competitively and with the highest intensity at home, so it will certainly be a difficult task. But we have also shown that we are capable of delivering in difficult circumstances, and if we deliver then we have a chance to win points wherever we go.”

Daniel Farke also provided an injury and availability update at his pre-Newcastle United press conference on Monday: “No new concerns about injuries, also important news after such an important match [on Sunday when drawing 1-1 with Man U].”

The Leeds boss also talks about specific players.

Farke says of Sean Longstaff being sold by Newcastle to Leeds in the summer: “If I’m honest, my initial plan was to involve him in the FA Cup for the first time with Sean, because he was out for more than six weeks. Maybe also an opportunity to be involved in the team again and certainly not for 90 minutes and certainly not in the starting line-up, but maybe for a few minutes.”

Daniel Farke also talks about other players who are quite certain they will miss the match against Newcastle United: “We just hope that Jayden Bogle recovers from his calf injury quite quickly… what I can confirm is that Joe Rodon and Jayden Bogle were also not in team training today. Both are making good progress. If the Newcastle game is too early whether there is an opportunity to involve them in some way, we will see. But at the moment it might be more realistic that they are not ready for this game, but certainly on the other side of the FA Cup tie and we still have a bit of hope that maybe a of them is able to support us also in Newcastle.”

Winger Dan James will definitely not play in the recovery of St James’ Park, as confirmed by Daniel Farke: “At the moment he is about two weeks away from team training and this is the first step. So we expect him back in team training in two weeks, at least around this date, and then we will see how quickly he is available for the matches.”
