Eddie Howe Everton press conference with important messages ahead of Saturday’s match

The Eddie Howe Everton press conference has taken place.

Newcastle United’s head coach speaks to the media ahead of Saturday’s match.

United face Everton at the Hill Dickenson Stadium tomorrow at 5.30pm.

Eddie Howe and his players hope to return to winning form after the defeat in Marseille.

Newcastle wants to show the level that Man City deservedly defeated last weekend.

Eddie Howe Everton press conference – November 28, 2025:

“The challenge for us is to try to find the level of consistency that we know we are capable of.

“We are trying to navigate this period and keep things fresh for the players.

“I’m looking forward to all the matches and the players have responded well to training.”

Eddie Howe on David Moyes and Everton:

“He is a manager I respect.

“Huge respect for him and the way he handles himself.

“He has done an incredible job at Everton. They are also playing well and have some dangerous players, especially in the wide areas.”

Eddie Howe asked about team news tomorrow:

“Nothing important about the match [in Marseille]we’ll look at the boys today.

“Sven Botman has been struggling with a back problem in recent days.

“Kieran Trippier has had a scan of his hamstring, we think it will take about a month anyway.

“Emil Krafth came back from international duty with a knee injury, but he will be good.”

Eddie Howe is Yoane Wis:

“He’s doing well, he trained with us for the first time on Wednesday, so I was really happy with how he looked.

“This is the first time he has been competitive with the group.

‘Let’s see how he reacts today.

“We have one in mind (a match in which Wissa could potentially return), but it’s probably best if I keep that to myself.

“We don’t want to disappoint anyone.

“Obviously we want to get him involved as soon as possible.”

Eddie Howe asked about his team’s poor away form:

“I thought that might happen.

“I still don’t know what to say to that.

“This season has brought some circumstances that I have to comment on, and rightly so, but sometimes you don’t have the right answers or answers to the questions asked.”

Eddie Howe wondered if an away win against Everton could be the most important result of Newcastle’s season:

“Possibly. We need that win away from home.”

“Without trying to make it bigger than it is, every win, especially back-to-back wins, in the Premier League will be transformative, especially given how tight the competition is this year.”

Eddie Howe asked about dealing with such a busy schedule:

“The games present different challenges.

“Obviously, fatigue is the biggest one. Not always physical fatigue, sometimes it’s mental fatigue.”

“It can give the feeling of always being prepared for a game which is great in a way, but of course depending on the needs of the players and whether they play or not, it can present different challenges.

“We’re trying to keep things fresh. I’m really happy with everyone’s respect. I’m looking forward to all the games ahead.”

Eddie Howe asked about the goalkeeping options, with Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale:

“For me, all options are on the table.

“I have to think long and hard about who I choose. I try to do that on merit.”

“I get the luxury of seeing the payers train every day and I will make my call.”

Nick Pope Aaron Ramsdale coaches Newcastle United

Eddie Howe asked if he had spoken to Nick Pope about his mistake in Marseille that led to the home team’s equalizer:

“Nick has a lot of experience, he is very level.

“You don’t see huge highs or lows.

“He is very calm and absorbs everything.

“Of course I discuss things with all my players.

“Nick is a top class professional and an excellent goalkeeper.

“We certainly support him. He has made some brilliant saves for us this season.”

Eddie Howe asked if he would consider switching between Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale:

“Of course, and in my view, you don’t think about rotating the goalkeeper.

“I think it’s a position of consistency.

“Ideally you want to give the defenders up front the continuity and the knowledge and understanding of how that goalkeeper plays.

“Changing a goalkeeper is of course possible, but it is a big task [a lot changes] because it depends on the style of the goalkeeper.

“It’s something I have to think about, but it’s definitely not something I want to do.”

Eddie Howe asked for the views of Newcastle United fans on the selection of goalkeepers:

“Of course I respect the opinion of the supporters, but ultimately I am paid to do the work.

“I always have to struggle with my thoughts.

“It is never a decision from one hundred percent to zero percent.

“It’s never easy because you’re dealing with good players at many different levels and in different positions.

“Although I acknowledge the opinion of the supporters, I don’t really know because I don’t really have the inclination to go there because it would affect my decision-making and I have to stay true to myself.”

Eddie Howe on Harvey Barnes:

“Harvey is playing well and he seems to have good confidence.

“He looks physically strong, looks fit and seems capable of carrying the game load he is experiencing.

“He is a goalscorer and a very good finisher and we saw that again on Tuesday. It was a fantastic finish with his left foot.”

“If you add that to his two goals against Manchester City, he is in good form and hopefully it stays that way.”

Eddie Howe asked about Joe Willock’s performance against Marseille:

“Joe was excellent.

“We chose him because of a few different things.

“How he has trained in the first place, he has good energy and has produced at a high level. His attitude has been excellent. He has been out of the team but he has been focused on trying to impress.”

“I think this is his best performance since his injury.

“I always say that when players suffer serious injuries it can take a while to get your rhythm back. He showed that he felt good physically, which is essential for him.”

“Personally I was very happy for him because it has been a long road and hopefully we can keep him at that level.”
