Eddie Howe has spoken before Newcastle United take on Wolves.
NUFC wants to achieve four Premier League victories in a row.
Newcastle United’s recent trio of PL wins has rocketed into the top six in a very crowded league table.
A win at Molineux would also make it back-to-back away wins in the Premier League for the first time this season.
At the same time, United also wants to recover from the League Cup defeat to Manchester City in midweek.
Eddie Howe speaks at his pre-match press conference at Newcastle United ahead of the clash against Wolves at Molineux:
“Wolves are in a better place.
“Statistically they’ve been a bit of an outlier. I think they’ve been unlucky not to get more points.”
“From our perspective, we don’t underestimate anyone. We have to make sure we’re in the right place mentally.”
“This is such an important match and we cannot take anyone lightly.”
Eddie Howe on the Carabao Cup semi-final defeat in midweek:
“I think there was a bit of fatigue in Manchester City’s performance, whether that was physically or mentally after the 120 minutes (against Bournemouth in the FA Cup). I know not everyone played those minutes, but from watching the game I don’t think we were at our best physically.”
“Now it’s a matter of, between that game and the Wolves game, to really try to freshen up the players and try to get the very best.
“This is a huge game in our Premier League season. We have built some momentum and we want to continue that for as long as possible.”
Eddie Howe on Joelinton’s form:
“He is such an important player for us.
“You see Joey at his growling, aggressive and confrontational best – I think that’s when he’s at his mental best place. There’s a fine line, we don’t want him to be sent off, but he plays with that edge in his game.”
“We’ve seen a solid return from him since he came back from his last injury. He had to be patient, but I think you’ve seen his quality and how important he is. With him there, I think we’ll look a better team.”
Eddie Howe about Fabian Schar:
“He had a successful operation yesterday, which is great news. Everything went according to plan.”
“It’s difficult to make a definitive statement, but I think in about three months we will have the diagnosis that we will work towards. If it goes faster, then great, but we have to give Fabian time to recover.”
Eddie Howe on Dan Burn and Will Osula as they look to be available for the matchday squad again:
“They’re both getting closer.
“Hopefully he will start training soon – we will then have to make a decision about when we can include him in a matchday squad.
“Dan is improving. He’s walking and that’s a really good thing. His fitness will be fine, it’ll just be managing the pain of his injury.”
Eddie Howe on Jacob Murphy:
“Jacob has had another scan and again nothing can be seen, which is strange.
“You have to go by the symptoms and how the player is feeling. That will probably mean a period of time when Jacob has to come out.” [of the matchday squad].
“I don’t know how long, but we are grateful that it is not a serious problem and hopefully one that we can overcome quickly.”
