For Matt Ebden and Jordan Thompson, US Open 2025 could be a clothing rehearsal for next month’s Davis Cup, against Belgium.
If the highest ranked doubles in the Davis Cup team of Australia for their first home base in three years, they will compete together in their first Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows.
Thompson wants to defend his Doubles Crown from 2024 in New York after he and Max Purcell won their first big title last year.
Ebden is also no stranger to a deep US Open Doubles Run. The 37-year-old reached the US Open final in 2023 alongside former World No.1 Rohan Bopanna.
With a 6-1 record as a combination, Ebden and Thompson formed by their side, after they won the ‘s-Hertogenbosch title in June.
They start their campaign against Argentijnen Francisco Cerundolo and Federico Agustin Gomez.
Ebden and Thompson heads a group of 12 Australians who participated in double action during the tournament.
Rinky Hijikata wants to make his second consecutive Grand Slam Dubble-Final when he reunits with the Dutchman David Pel.
John Peers, John-Patrick Smith, Matthew Romios and Tristan Schoolkate will also perform.
In women’s doubles, Ellen Perez is sown sixth in New York next to the Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok. Perez and Kichenok want to build on their WTA 1000 semi -final performance in Cincinnati.
Kimberly Birrell and Olivia Gadecki will also combine, while Maya Joint and Storm Hunter will link to the respective Americans Caty McNally and Desirae Krawczyk.
