Raw numbers are the name of the fantasy game, of course, but you can glean a lot from the movie and usage stats. In this series we look at newcomers and how they are doing through film analysis and any additional tools that can show their progress. Generally this will focus a bit on rookies lower down the rankings, but every now and then we’ll discuss some of the heavy hitters.
Omarion Hampton, RB LAC
The Hampton hype train was full speed ahead after Najee Harris’ Achilles injury. Unfortunately, Hampton suffered a broken ankle shortly after taking on a heavy workload, leaving fantasy managers sullen.
Hampton ultimately missed seven games, a tough blow for a running back who was flirting with the RB1 ranks after training camp ended. He returned on Monday Night Football against the Eagles – a game that set football back decades – and looked strong in his return. He had one critical run in overtime which helped propel the Chargers to a crucial win.
