Dynasty Fantasy Football Trade Advice Week 13

Buy: TE Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions

Sometimes the best purchases aren’t the sexy or flashy ones. That said, dynasty managers – especially those in tight premium formats – should shop around to see what it will take to pry Sam LaPorta away from his current manager.

LaPorta’s value is lower than it has been since the start of his rookie campaign, thanks to a back injury he suffered in Week 10. He landed on IR and will miss at least four games. Smart managers, it’s time to strike.

The value of Sam LaPorta’s dynasty over the past year

Before the injury, LaPorta was putting up solid numbers. He was the TE8 in total points scored and TE9 in average, with 11.9 PPR PPG. More importantly, the efficiency metrics supported his top 10 production:

  • TE1 in actual catch rate (100%)
  • TE3 in PlayerProfiler’s explosive rating (116.9)
  • TE6 in yards per route (2.00)
  • TE8 in QB Rating by Objective (128.7)
  • TE9 in fantasy points per goal (2.18)
  • TE9 in first downs per route (0.094)

As you can see, LaPorta is the real deal. It’s a shame he’ll miss time, as he was on his way to another top 10 fantasy finish after finishing as TE1 and TE8 in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Sam LaPorta Season Stats

And that’s exactly why you should try to get him. Injuries, even minor ones, create buying opportunities where productive players can be acquired at small discounts. Managers in the playoff hunt may be willing to move on from him to get some points in their lineup now, and rebuilding managers may want a younger player or another pick to play again.

LaPorta may never be the top TE again, but he’s a fundamental asset when healthy — at a position that’s typically annoying for managers outside the top two or three.

Go make an offer. You might be able to get away with sending away two second-rounders, but I could just as easily send a projected late first-rounder to pick him up. If you can back your TE slot for the long term with a solid producer like LaPorta, do so if the price is right.

Sell: WR Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals

Talk about a heater! Michael Wilson, with Jacoby Brissett in hand, has looked like the best Larry Fitzgerald in the desert over the last two games. Because there is no Marvin Harrison Jr. faced him, Wilson took advantage of his opportunities – all 33 of them to be precise.

That’s right: 33 targets have gone Wilson’s way in the past two weeks. The third-year veteran hauled in 25 for 303 yards. Without even scoring a TD, Wilson had WR1 and WR9 finishes in that stretch. These were his first weekly WR1 finishes since Week 4 of 2023, Wilson’s rookie season. He then recorded only two more top-24 weeks for the rest of the year. And since the start of the 2024 season, his best weekly finish was WR27… until this recent blowout.

Advanced statistics by Michael Wilson

It was a fun story, and if you were smart enough to capture the points in your lineup during this blowout, congratulations. I’m sure Wilson helped you win your matches. But we don’t actually think this will last long, do we? No, of course not. He clearly benefits from being the most pass-happy team in the NFL, with the Cardinals averaging over 42 pass plays per game.

He doesn’t do anything special; Wilson has just benefited from running the second-most routes in the NFL so far. The efficiency statistics support this statement:

  • WR52 in PlayerProfiler’s explosive rating (94.5)
  • WR59 in yards per target (7.5)
  • WR69 in first downs per route run (0.065)
  • WR71 in yards per route (1.34)
  • WR79 in goal separation (1.24)

Wilson’s career high for a season is 565 yards. He is just 32 meters from the top with six games to go. His fantasy PPG of 9.7 this season is the best he has ever produced. And he has just eight TDs in his 40 games played.

This is a profile you want to sell, not chase.

Despite the last two games, Wilson has not shown that he is a game changer in his young career. He has never commanded such volume, and as soon as Harrison Jr. returns, there’s no way we’ll see Wilson hitting more than 15 balls per game again. The best-case scenario is that he becomes a regular third option behind Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride, who is currently the best player among TEs in fantasy this season.

Michael Wilson’s 2025 EPX

This high-volume passing attack has been a perfect storm, but it may not last long-term and likely won’t continue beyond this season. At 3-8 right now, there’s no telling who will coach or quarterback the Cardinals in 2026.

That’s why you need to cash out now while its stock is soaring. If a fellow competitor buys into the hype and thinks Wilson is on his way to becoming more than a WR4 in fantasy, there’s no better time to deal with him. You can take advantage of these recent peak weeks to probably get a few picks, probably a second-rounder plus a third-rounder, or you can package him with another upside to move up to a more stable wideout.

Waitlist: Rico Dowdle, Carolina Panthers

Like Wilson above, Rico Dowdle had back-to-back monster performances earlier this season that caught the attention of fantasy managers. When starter Chuba Hubbard was sidelined with an ankle injury, Dowdle stepped up. He totaled 473 yards with two scores and produced weekly RB1 and RB2 finishes. The Panthers gave Hubbard a chance to win his job back, but Dowdle’s production couldn’t be bottled up.

Rico Dowdle’s advanced statistics

Since taking over in Week 9, Dowdle has produced four consecutive double-digit performances. However, his weekly finishes have trended downward in that span: RB2, RB15, RB17, RB21.

The time to turn him around was six weeks ago, when he rode the wave of those two huge outings. Unless you’re a manager looking for the 1.01, keeping Dowdle seems like a smarter move. It’s lost a bit of its luster recently, so you won’t get top dollar anymore.

That said, Dowdle has come out of nowhere and is currently the RB10 for the season, averaging 14.5 PPR PPG. He is a strong RB2 capable of putting up quality RB1 numbers every Sunday. Looking ahead, the Panthers could terminate Hubbard’s contract this offseason, so there’s a chance they’ll want to re-sign Dowdle and run it again with him as the lead back next year. If they don’t, he’s shown enough this season to earn a starting shot, and he’ll be in high demand.

Unless someone comes along with a first-round offer or a player equivalent, hang in there and roll with it with Dowdle.
